Woodland Hills, CA
UC Davis (undergrad.)

Let me tell you a little about me…I was born and raised in Southern California. I love the beach and everything that comes with the Southern California climate! During high school I visited UC Davis and absolutely fell in love with the campus. Subsequently I moved to Northern California to attend UC Davis. While in college I was an RA (Resident Advisor) in the residence halls and an Event Coordinator for student activities on campus. I graduated in 1998 with a B.S. in Psychology. The next ten years of my life took me on a journey that kept me away from California. I attended Miami University in Ohio where I earned a Master’s degree in College Student Personnel in 2000. This degree led me to work professionally as a Residence Hall (dorm) Director at such schools as Miami University, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Michigan State University, and finally at the University of La Verne. Working in the residence halls, a college student’s home, allowed me to influence and mentor students as they faced the many personal and academic challenges that arise during the college years. Prior to returning to Southern California in 2007, I earned a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Michigan State University. Finally, I continue to embrace my identity as a life-long learner as I was admitted to the Positive Organizational Psychology doctoral program at Claremont Graduate University for fall 2010. On a more personal level, during my spare time I am committed to being the world’s greatest aunt to my niece and nephews. Seeing and experiencing the world through the eyes of a four-year old is an amazing thing!

I teach for Revolution Prep because it is a great company that truly values student learning and advancement specifically related to college entrance exams. On a larger scale the staff at Revolution Prep is committed to helping students make positive progress toward their educational goals. I value education and have a passion for teaching, mentoring, and coaching young adults. As an instructor with Revolution Prep, I can teach classes and tutor students on a schedule that is flexible and accommodating with my own schedule as a graduate student.

Practically speaking, after recently preparing for and taking the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), I realized that I enjoyed the challenge of tackling and conquering SAT and GRE-type problems. Upon completing the exam I found myself wanting to continue to practice problems. Just as I decided that I must be a nerd for pursuing such a hobby I discovered Revolution Prep. and the opportunity to be an instructor. I was pleasantly surprised to meet a group of peers that shared the same “nerdy” interest in outsmarting the SAT writers. I was also very pleased to learn that Revolution Prep instructors and staff are not only highly intelligent, but incredibly down-to-earth, friendly, and approachable people as well.

Boise, Idaho
Chapman University 08

I recently graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Creative Writing and a BA in theatre performance. For the past four years I have taught drama and improv to students aging from 6 to 18. I also perform weekly in a OC improv comedy group and in my free time I am always up for a game of ultimate frisbee.

I am thrilled to be teaching and tutoring students with Revolution Prep. Rev Prep does a great job of taking something every student dreads--the standardized test--and making it fun and interesting (and if not fun and interesting, at least more bearable and less scary). The Rev Prep curriculum gives every student a chance to succeed, and I am excited to be a part of it.

Madison, Wisconsin
University of Wisconsin (BA), SFSU (MFA)

I hail from the land of cows and cheese, where the winters are bitingly cold, and the Green Bay Packers are still worshiped as minor gods despite the fact that they haven't been to a Superbowl in, like, a decade. I earned a lovely piece of paper from the University of Wisconsin that says - Bachelor of Arts - and - Psychology - on it, which means that when I look at you, I am immediately aware of your innermost fears and desires, and also know everything about your relationship with your mother.

Now, however, I am straight off a six month trip to Africa as a present to myself for completing a Masters Degree in creative writing from SFSU. One day I will write the Great American Novel and will certainly become more famous than the Beatles, so get me while I'm cheap folks!

I love teaching SOOO much that sometimes people used to walk up to me on the street and say - Hey aren't you that guy who loves teaching SOOO much, and I'd say - Why yes! Yes I am! Is there something I can help you learn more about? The inimitable intricacies of the Pythagorean theorem for instance? The slithering slippery slope equation? Maybe the dastardly devious derring-do of dangling modifiers have dropped you down into the doldrums of despair and disenchantment? Fear Not! - I would say, but by that point people had usually moved on and I'd just be standing there, talking to myself and trying to illustrate the importance of verb tense agreement using shadow puppets and crudely drawn stick figures.

Thank God for Revolution Prep! They found me out there on the corner one day, lecturing advanced critical reading concepts to a group of Czech tourists waiting to cross the street. Revolution Prep took me in, gave me a warm bowl of soup and a whiteboard marker, and set my passions to work on the noble task of empowering young minds with the knowledge and strategies necessary to pin the SAT's arm behind its back until it screams - UNCLE!

Visalia, CA
UC Davis, University of Cambridge, Harvard, Claremont

As you may have guessed from the universities I have attended (see above; College), I love learning. I shipped off to UC Davis with no idea of what I wanted to do, and enjoyed exploring different classes so much that it took me three years to decide on my two majors (somehow I still managed to graduate in four). After studying abroad in England (at Cambridge), I returned to the states with a renewed interest in History and Religious Studies. Following my graduation from Davis, I went to Harvard to earn an M.A. in Religious Studies, with a focus on the Roman Empire and early Christian History. I am now currently working towards a Ph.D. in the same subject at Claremont. My days consist of cafes, reading, translating Greek and Latin, absorbing the ideas of the greatest ancient philosophers, and generally thinking big thoughts about the past. It's a good life.

Of course, I can't keep my nose in the books all the time. When I'm not reading, you can generally find me outside running, swimming, or playing soccer, or watching the beautiful game with friends (I love that sport!). I also have a passion for costume parties.

College was such an adventure for me (encountering new ideas, meeting interesting people, seeing foreign places), and it is my sincerest hope that every young person can share in that experience. Not only is the guidance and preparation Revolution provides the best, it is also crucial for making that happen. I love teaching with Revolution because it allows me to assist students in realizing their aspirations, and because imparting my (considerable) knowledge of college to them is really fun.

Chicago, IL
Northwestern University

I grew up on the south side of Chicago and went to a public magnet high school downtown, then proceeded to Northwestern because I apparently just couldn't get enough of the Windy City! I double-majored in Theatre and Sociology at Northwestern and spent a semester in London studying at an acting conservatory. After graduation and 22 years in Chicago, I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so here I am in L.A. enjoying the sunshine and the hour it takes to get to the beach, the desert, or the mountains!

EVERYONE deserves the chance to go to the school they want to go to, and getting into that school can sometimes be such a crap shoot... why not get control over one of the few things you CAN control?

San Francisco, California
University of California, Irvine

I recently graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Drama, where I was an Honors in Directing student focusing on playwriting who liked to act and took musical theatre, fiction, and poetry classes. BasicallyI have many interests. At UCI I also ran my own grant-funded theatre company and participated in the Duke in London Drama Program and the UCI New York Satellite Program. (Yes, college is great. Great great great.)

Writing is my favorite thing in the world. I also like fortune-telling machines, magic tricks, short stories with unreliable narrators, giraffes, raspberry lemonade, the Cupid and Psyche myth, and getting emotionally invested in movie trailers. Addison was my favorite character on Greys Anatomy, and Im kind of bummed that Private Practice is lame. I love teaching and am excited to help students increase their college options through decoding the SAT.

My personal philosophy is that there is nothing more engaging and interesting than learning, but that there are many, many, things more engaging and interesting than the SAT. So what would be the point of taking a boring prep class about a boring subject? Basically:

SATs = Boredom = Low scores
SATs * Uninteresting Prep Class = Lame = Not Helpful

SATs * RevPrep = Engaging! + Interesting! = Success! :D

Meghan = Proud to fight the good fight.

I was born on the island of Corsica, in 1769. After training as an artillery officer in mainland France, I rose to prominence under the First French Republic. In 1799, I staged a coup d'état and installed myself as First Consul; five years later the French Senate proclaimed me Emperor.

These days, I find myself an emperor of test prep: I graduated from Yale (Humanities major); I was a senior editor at SparkNotes.com for two years; I spent three summers teaching enrichment classes for underprivileged students at the elite College Preparatory School in Oakland, California.

I currently reside on the island of St. Helena. My hobbies include plotting to retake Europe and sitting for portraits.

Having taught and tutored with Revolution Prep for more than six years, I've been able to help shape the curriculum based on direct observation of how students learn best.

I graduated from Harvard with a degree in sociology and a lot of Japan-related credits. Wanting to learn more about both teaching and Japan I moved there to teach English through the JET Programme. While I loved my students I realized that to learn more about education I'd have to look closer to home. I found I missed working with high school students so Revolution is a great fit and allows me to do all sorts of side projects in various stages of completion. I love exercising, gardening, and generally being outdoors, although I have been known to come inside to bake cupcakes from time to time.

College is important and interesting and awesome, and I think it's silly that a test like the SAT stands in the way. I want to help students clear the hurdle of the SAT as painlessly as possible so they can get into college and focus on what really excites them. I like teaching and I like Revolution Prep because everyone else there does too. I was blown away by their teacher training and impressed by their approach to the SAT, but their social mission is what I found most compelling.

Im from a town of 6,000 people and though I have never been cow tipping this area is famous for hippies and the largest Accordion Festival in the Western United States.
Asparagus is my favorite vegetable. I am fascinated by people. I read music and books as often as possible. I never tire of learning new things. I love all things Italian. I plan to make a lifetime habit of traveling the world.

When I was born I didnt cry. In fact I was so quiet the doctors thought there was something wrong with me. I spent most of my infant years observing. Then, at age three, I started a tap dancing class. Suddenly it became clear that my lack of crying and tantrum throwing as a child was only me preserving my feet and vocal chords for a lifetime in the entertainment industry. By six I was a walking American Idol contestant. By sixteen I had realized that all this training was for my main mission in life: destroying the colossal beast known as the SAT through ninja theatrics. Which brings me here, to RevPrep, where I plan to teach you all how to dominate the SAT in an entertaining and fun fashion.

Minneapolis, MN
Northwestern University

I developed my passion for teaching at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. There I graduated with a B.S. in Theater (there's a joke there somewhere, but I don't know what it is), and also became actively involved with a something called Griffin's Tale, a group that specialized in writing enrichment for elementary school students. We had students write stories, then we'd turn them into sketches and songs, and then perform those sketches and songs for the school the kids attended.

After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles. Since arriving, I've worked as a paralegal, a host at the Yard House, an intern at a not-for-profit tutoring organization called 826LA, and now Revolution Prep (which I'm most partial to). I'm also currently in a group modeled after Griffin's Tale called Striking Viking Story Pirates.

I like writing, doing improv comedy, and going out with friends. My favorite movie is probably Wet Hot American Summer and my favorite television show is Arrested Development. I love all sports, but specifically the Vikings, Twins and Timberwolves. I'm probably the most dynamite karaoke performer you've ever seen.

Because I remember what it was like to go through the college application process when I was in high school, and no one should have to face that mess alone.

Santa Monica, California
University of California San Diego

I grew up in Santa Monica, California and began my life with Revolution as a student when they first began at Santa Monica High School. With their help, I was accepted to and recently graduated from UCSD. I majored in American History with a minor in Film Studies. When I'm not teaching I am usually down at the beach pretending to know how to surf or watching an old film that most people have probably never heard of. Also, although many have tried, I have yet to meet a person who can stump me at Simpsons trivia.

I teach for Revolution Prep because I want other students to have the same great learning experience with Revolution that I had. I am also a very patient person who is willing to go the extra mile to help any student with whatever question they might have.

Los Angeles
Occidental College

I was born in Los Angeles in the midst of the ragin' '80s, and grew up going to public schools around Fairfax and the Valley. When I got to high school, I applied for and was granted a scholarship to an east coast boarding school, complete with prefects and headmasters (but no Quidditch...terrible!). After four years of New England winters, I returned to LA to attend Occidental College where I majored in Ancient Greek studies. I love dead languages and I am completely obsessed with eating delicious foods. My new favorite book is "Heat" by Bill Buford, in which he takes a a break from his job as a writer for The New Yorker to become an apprentice in one of Mario Batali's restaurants in New York.

I love Revolution Prep's first and foremost commitment to teaching! Their strategies are great not only as tools to study for the SAT, but also as tools that students can develop and sharpen throughout college and even a lifetime of intellectual pursuits. Also, I am a huge dork and I LOVE the SAT!

Tarzana, CA
Brown University

Born and raised in Los Angeles, I went to high school at Oakwood School in North Hollywood. After that, I ventured east to attend Brown University. I spent an amazing four years there, studying everything from religion to the sciences, but my primary focus was on writing and directing for the stage and screen. At Brown, I wrote and directed plays, short films, on campus TV shows, and even a full length feature film. After receiving a BA in Theatre Arts, I moved to LA (i.e. back to Mom's) to pursue my filmmaking dreams. So far, so good... In the few years that I've been out here, I've already sold a few scripts!

I've been tutoring for many years, and after I got back from college, I knew I wanted to help students with the SAT. I know how important good SAT prep is. Without the prep that I got in high school, I know that I wouldn't be where I am now. It helped me get a great score and get into a fantastic school, which in turn gave me so many wonderful opportunities. I'm at Revolution because I want to give back. There's no greater feeling than helping a student get closer to their dreams.

I graduated from UCLA with a degree in Physiological Science. Although I am looking forward to a career in medicine, I have developed a strong passion for teaching, becoming a UCLA tutor for 2 years. I was also the Director of Education for UCLA's high school outreach program, Citylab, and continue to mentor incoming UCLA freshman through UCLA's Academics in the Commons Program.

During my free time, I like being active, going to the gym, and playing a variety of sports. I am an avid Lakers fan, and I especially love eating Chinese food!

I love teaching! Whether it is the fact that people have to listen to what I have to say (HAHA) or being able to help others achieve their goals, teaching is a source of fulfillment for me.

York, Pennsylvania
New York University, University of Southern Califo

I'm what most would consider a professional student. Originally from a small town in Pennsylvania, I tried my luck as an English major at NYU. I was there for two years and managed to complete an Associates while exploring three different majors. I then decided why not Biology and oh yea why not California. I graduated from USC (fight on Trojans!) in 2008 with my bachelors in Biological Sciences with a minor in Biotechnology. I'm now currently in business school working on an MBA. After it's all said and done I will be off to law school to begin a career in patent law for the biotechnology industry. I have a passion for animal rights and ran a school organization at USC. Things I love (aside from school of course): surfing, hiking, my dog Maximus, my cat Sunno, playing the violin and the guitar, singing (as long as no one can hear me), bike riding, snowboarding (or what I refer to as falling down really well), and of course my students!

Aside from hearing myself talk for three hours at a time, I had the pleasure of tutoring students through the No Child Left Behind program for two years and it was such a rewarding experience. I have now worked with Revolution, teaching classes and offering private tutoring, for over two years. I have worked with students of all levels of ability and knowledge from France, to Northern California, to all over Los Angeles and Ventura counties. I really enjoy working with students to help them achieve their goals. I believe in the social mission at Revolution Prep and feel their curriculum and strategies are the most effective methods to help students reach their potential.

Sunnyvale, CA
Occidental College

I really enjoy teaching! I'm very enthusiastic, passionate, and fun. I have a double degree in Music and Film, and a minor in Education from Occidental College. I've been working as a tutor for over 8 years and I have lots of teaching resources. I love sports, and throughout school I played soccer, basketball, volleyball, and ran cross-country. I'm also very into playing the piano (for 20 years!), recording my own songs in GarageBand, and singing in the shower. Anything more you want to know - just ask!

From my teacher education classes in college, I learned that students don't all learn the same way, and if an instructor simply follows a teaching manual, not everyone will understand the material. Revolution Prep does a great job of supporting its teachers and allowing us to teach the curriculum the way we feel would help our students learn best. I really enjoy working with a variety of students every day and creating methods that work for them.

Alison T.

Baltimore, MD.
Point Park University

I went to a really awesome arts high school for acting and I went to college for musical theater. My perfect life would include being a drama therapist for at-risk children, taking at least 2 vacations per year, acting in amazing life-altering films and plays, growing a bicep or two, and last but not least, playing a Disney princess in the Ice Capades!

I actually love standardized tests. I take a practice SAT in the morning when I feel like having a luxurious day. I took the GMAT online for fun. I'm not kidding, but I'm also not a crazy person. Standardized tests are a puzzle, just like crosswords, Sudoku, and Scrabble, and I like showing that to my students. The best moment is the inevitable one where eventually, after weeks of hard work, a student who used to be so angry that they were being forced to take the SAT to get into college says "You know, I actually kind of like the math section . . . " That is my goal for ALL the students I teach -- I want everyone I work with to realize that these tests are beatable, and it just takes the right strategies (which is where Revolution comes in) to do it.

Marion, VA
University of Southern California

I grew up in a small town in the Appalachian mountains of southwest Virginia (cue banjo), thus ensuring major culture shock once I moved to Los Angeles for college. I started as a journalism major at USC, but wheedled and cajoled my way into the cinema school after having a true epiphany during a film class. Needless to say, my family was thrilled to learn I'd moved to CA to major in movies. Along with my tutoring assignments, I do film programming for AFI (the institute, not the band), specializing in documentary film. Shout-out to the folks at the Arclight theaters in Hollywood for their support! In addition to being a film geek, I dig reading and music, having grown up playing both the piano and the sax. I am an avid college football fan, which could be a holdover from my time as a member of the Trojan Marching Band. I'm also the proud recipient of a commemorative paperweight denoting my boat's 1st place finish in the Novice 8 race in the San Diego Fall Classic a few years back (apparently, that and $3 will get me a latte at Starbucks). I'm told I possess a rather sardonic sense of humor, which may or may not be apparent herein.

Too many students get caught up in the drama surrounding standardized tests, resigning themselves to what they perceive as a fate over which they have no control. Pfffft, not on my watch. I want to both instruct and, hopefully, inspire, so my students feel empowered to tackle the challenge head-on, and then carry that self-confidence with them as they move forward in life. My role is to serve as a co-conspirator in my students' efforts to upset the testing apple cart, if you will (and I understand you will).

9 out of 10 physicians agree: Cameron is awesome! I grew up in the hills of Oakland, California. In 2003, after graduating from the Head Royce School, I moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California. There, I earned a degree in Political Science with a minor in writing for Screen and Television, and spent four months traveling the world. In addition to teaching with Revolution Prep, I am an aspiring writer and a professional photographer.

Which, of course, is why all those doctors think I'm awesome.

I teach for Revolution Prep because I believe firmly in both their curriculum and their social mission. I've worked as a tutor since 2004, and Revolution Prep is the first company I've seen whose curriculum gives consistent score increases for students at all skill levels.

What's more, the social mission and financial aid programs level the educational playing field, and open the world of higher education a wide-range of capable, dynamic students, regardless of their socio-economic status. In sum, because they're awesome!

I am a doctor in the making. I am an alumni of UC Berkeley where I studied Integrative Biology and African American Studies. I am also a huge sports fan (Go Lakers, Dodgers, and Raiders!) and it definitely is how I relax. I have been working in education for the past 9 years as a tutor, a college seminar instructor, and a substitute teacher. I have taught everything from the History of Hip-Hop to Biochemistry. I love to try new things as well, so bring it on!

I have a passion for working with students! I have been teaching and tutoring for as long as I can remember. I just enjoy it so much, so to have the opportunity to work with other people who share my passion and also get to meet amazing students just makes sense.

East Setauket, NY

I grew up in a small suburb in Long Island where I attended a public high school. I was lucky enough to have a backyard with a duck pond teeming with frogs, turtles, and the occasional blue heron. I filled my days playing baseball, basketball, and piano.

During my tenure at Yale, I developed a passion for comedy and history. I wrote and edited the campus humor magazine and worked as a tour guide for the Yale Center of British Art. I began my tutoring experience in college where I taught high school students math, science, history, and writing, helping them with their homework and preparing them for the SAT II.

Upon my graduation I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in writing and shaping young minds. In ten years, I hope to write for a television show. In thirty years, I hope to be a professor in humorology.

Oh, and I love jazz. Put on Bill Evans or Thelonious Monk and I'm in heaven.

I teach at Revolution Prep because I enjoy working one-on-one with intelligent motivated students. I like to build a strong and comfortable rapport with my pupils so that I can tailor each lesson to his/her strengths. My favorite aspect of teaching is watching an increased sense of academic confidence in my students Seeing my them empowered, ready to take on new challenges they never before believed possible, is the most rewarding part of my job.

Las Vegas, NV

I was born and raised in Las Vegas. Seriously. In high school I was extremely involved in policy debate, traveling the country with my team to go to debate tournaments almost every weekend. When I wasn't busy dominating my opponents with my verbal prowess, I spent some quality time beating the SAT into submission. It did its best to keep me from going to Yale, but in the end, I was victorious.

Once I got to college, I decided to go in a different direction and study film. I'll be starting an MFA in Film and Television production at USC in January. I'm new to L.A., so I've been loving exploring the city. Los Angeles beats the pants off of anywhere I've lived before in terms of weather, and I'm really digging all the outdoor concerts and film screenings that go on here.

The SAT is an obstacle that students must overcome to get where they want to be going. It should not be something that holds anyone back from his or her goals. If someone is having trouble on the SAT, I truly believe that the Revolution curriculum can help him or her improve. The SAT can be a challenge, but it is not impossible, and I love that I can help students take control of a portion of the college application process by doing as well as they can on this exam.

I grew up in Minnesota, where they have all those lakes. While studying English at Yale University, I directed a performing comedy group, played in rock bands, and let off any remaining steam with my fraternity. After graduation, I spent the summer in Russia shooting a documentary about Seattle high school students who traveled to a St. Petersburg school to install a donated computer lab. I worked for a few years in New York for a record label, then headed West to pursue my screenwriting dreams.

In my life, many doors have been opened for me. Achieving on the SATs is what opened that first door, and few things have proved as satisfying as helping fellow seekers open that first door for themselves.

I've been privileged to have some of the greatest jobs in the world in my attempt to follow the road less traveled. I started at 16 as a forklift operator and scrap metal expert at ARC Recycling in Long Beach. Yeah that's right, metallurgy...recognize. From there, I took a job as a beach lifeguard and EMT at US Ocean Safety, where I have recorded 56 rescues, an EMT-B certification, and a righteous tan. I still go back every summer for two weeks to bodysurf, ATV, and fish-taco my way to enlightenment. From there I became an assistant manager at the late 9000 Lounge on Sunset Blvd and, in a few short months, became the youngest GM of a nightclub/restaurant/bar on Sunset. Pretty sweet. Once that expired, it was a brief stint in the banking world, a research position at the UCLA Neuroscience Lab, and various freelance bartending gigs that led to a transition to Revolution Prep where I now work as an Instructor Extraordinaire.

Nothing makes me happier than kids who get something out of what I teach them, and that feeling I bring home after every class or tutoring session surpasses all the fun I've had in my last 25 years, without a doubt.

When I'm not teaching SAT's, I'm teaching elementary kids for LAUSD. I cant wait to meet you guys in one of my classes!

Teaching is fun. College is awesome. The SAT is...not. I took the SAT back before it became the ridiculous monstrosity that it is and I didn't think it was very fun then. Now, it's become even crazier and it's time to fight back. I love working with students of all ages and helping high schoolers do well on the SAT is kind of a blast. I teach for Revolution Prep because they have the best program to help students do well on this exam.
