Hometown: Long Beach, CA
College: New York University
Resides in: new york, NY
About Me:
I am a jack of all trades, with interests that range from biology and writing to mountain climbing and photography. I have lived overseas in Japan for three years, and recently worked for three months in Africa as a lead researcher for a project recording historical information about the Rwandan Genocide. My favorite sports are volleyball, basketball, cycling, and fencing (sword fighting). Every summer from 2004-2008, I worked at a family summer camp in the Sequoia National Forest and assumed a variety of roles; from the fencing and rock climbing instructor to the camp's special events director. I eagerly look forward to working with students to help prepare them for the challenges ahead, applying my unique experience as a powerful tool to drive real and powerful improvements.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My teachers are the real-life heroes of my childhood, and I hope now to give the gift of knowledge just as it was once given to me. Our children are the future, and I am passionate about helping them realize their dreams and achieve their goals. I realized this while teaching a group of inner-city high school students a semester-long photography and web design course during my time at NYU, and look forward to developing my teaching skills, making a difference here and now.

Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA
College: Columbia
Resides in: Fort Lee, NJ
About Me:
I'm a graduate student, so I spend most of my time reading long, dense articles (just like on the SAT!). Also, I just bought a bike (you'll probably see me riding it on the way to class).
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Because I actually think that standardized tests can be fun to take (really!). Hopefully after this course, you'll think so too.
Allison B.
Hometown: Long Beach, CA
College: University of California Santa Barbara
Resides in: Long Beach, CA
About Me:
I graduated from UCSB in 2006 with a degree in Political Science, which I put to good use on an 11,000 mile solo road trip around America. I have been a Political Science graduate assistant at CSULB and I also study Latin and French. If you're lucky I might even teach you some Latin roots in class! I love adventure and have traveled to over 20 countries. Two summers ago I led a biking and camping trip for teenagers from Amsterdam to Paris. This past summer I biked from NYC to LA with the Bicycle Film Festival! Feel free to ask me about any of these travels in class. I love reading, writing, and all things outdoorsy!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe in the mission of Revolution Prep; everyone should have the opportunity to go to college. Even though standardized tests are lame, you can totally prepare for them! My students regularly see 200-500 point increases. I had an amazing college experience, and I want to help high-schoolers do the same!
Jonathan C.
Hometown: Honolulu
College: University of Hawaii / Sarah Lawrence College
Resides in: Woodside, NY
About Me:
Jonathan is a writer and musician from Honolulu, Hawaii. His fiction, poetry, and essays have been published in various periodicals and literary journals, and in his free time he divides his creative energy between work on his longer fiction projects, The Consummation of Dirk (a novel), and The Mask (basically a shorter novel), and the occasional song.
As a grad student he played point guard for the Sarah Lawrence College basketball team, which actually wasn't as bad as you might assume (although at 5'5" he didn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of opposing players).
In addition to teaching for Revolution Prep he works at a non-profit in Sunnyside, Queens, and teaches writing at SUNY Purchase College in Westchester.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I've been involved in SAT-prep for a little while now, and there really isn't another company out there that offers the range of services, quality of resources and efficiency of instructional methods that Revolution provides. I tell my students all the time that if they're willing to buy into the Revolution system and put into practice the techniques we teach, then at the end of their time with us they'll see the SAT wholly demystified, and their scores will rise-- often quite dramatically.
Kimberly C.
Hometown: Queens, NY
College: New York University, Tisch School of the Arts
Resides in: Sunnyside, NY
About Me:
I was born in Texas and lived there for three awesome months until my family moved to Woodside, Queens. I went to Hunter College High School, and then to NYU for film and television production. My two biggest passions are travel (I've been to four of the seven continents), and children's entertainment (my day job is as an Associate Producer at Nick Jr). Some fast facts: I am half Chinese and half British; I have eight younger siblings; I am engaged to be married; I love all kinds of food; my favorite sport is women's gymnastics; and I have never paid for a haircut. Also, I know everything about the Beatles. Seriously.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Ever since I first packed up a backpack, grabbed an umbrella, and broke into an elementary school at the age of two so I could see what it was like, I have had a passion for learning and education. And it may sound silly, but the great score I eventually got the SAT's opened doors to many experiences that changed my life! I teach because I want to help others to reach their own goals, and I really believe that education is THE key to all achievement.
Katie D.
Hometown: New York, NY
College: Brown University
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
I am originally from northern New Jersey but am currently living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan as I begin working on my doctoral degree in child psychology at Yeshiva University. I graduated from Brown University in May 2009 with degrees in education studies and computer music. I am a trained pianist and an avid runner. Throughout college, I taught in a kindergarten classroom, and the kids' musical tastes wore off on me: I know the entire Demi Lovato album by heart and have seen the Jonas Brothers in concert twice. I've never tasted ketchup.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My experience taking the SATs was a positive one: After preparing for about 35 hours, I achieved a significantly higher score than I had ever anticipated, and therefore, felt way better about applying to schools that I had initially thought were "out of my range." I think that the SATs don't necessarily make or break an applicant, but that a good score can really enhance and add confidence to a college application. I love teaching for Revolution and helping other students attain this level of confidence in their own abilities, which is instrumental in allowing students to take advantage of whatever opportunities might be available to them. (Plus, I think SAT math is fun.)
Adam D.
Hometown: Larchmont, NY
College: Brown University
Resides in: Larchmont, NY
About Me:
After college, I worked on the campaign staff of then-Senator Barack Obama for over a year, in 6 different states. Now, in addition to teaching, I work as a writer and radio producer in New York. I love: old movies, the disastrous NY Knickerbockers, and pretending I know how to cook.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Because I love to help students get their learn on--!
Nicole D.
Hometown: Cow Town, MA
College: Yale University
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
I was born on a Christmas tree farm in Massachusetts, and have been slowly moving south ever since. After a four year stop in New Haven (Boola boola!) I arrived in the East Village and haven't yet found a good reason to leave. I get keyed up about social justice and Ukrainian Easter Egg dyeing, relax with yoga and Hitchcock films, and cook a mean ratatouille. Contrary to persistent rumors, I do not do Sentence Completion questions "just for fun." Not usually, anyway.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
When you're from the land of the Minutemen, revolution is in your veins. I love leading ragtag troops of upstart students to victory in the grand battle against the Mighty SAT. So far I've only had a few casualties, so you're in good hands!
Shane D.
Hometown: Redwood City, CA
College: Yale University; U.C. Hastings College of the Law
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
I have spent 9 wonderful years in the field of immigration law (the last 4 as an attorney). However, I find myself decompressing from law firm life these days (I still occasionally do immigration case work and writing) and pursuing my love of teaching -- something I knew I'd be doing at some point in my life. In addition to my work with Revolution, I am currently an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Brooklyn College (which I absolutely love). I have also given immigration trainings to pro bono legal service organizations and law firms. My initial training in teaching comes from my teaching assistant work in law school in academic support and legal writing. And I have taken (and passed) my fair share of standardized tests -- the LSAT and both the California & New York bars (the first and second hardest in the country, respectively)!
Outside of teaching, I'm probably most known for being a devoted adult kickballer (no kidding, really). I am an administrator for the largest site devoted to adult kickball fans in the world, travel 5+ times a year to tournaments around the country, and maintain the national rankings (4 years running). It's a joy to be sharing this crazy sport with grown adults; for some reason, it only seems to attract friendly people!
Also, it's a known fact that my family no longer plays me in Scrabble for a reason. SAT vocabulary is nothing compared to learning the most bizarre 7-letter words to break 400 points in a game!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution's commitment to help all students succeed on the SAT struck me as particularly poignant. Test preparation should not be an elusive privilege! And I myself enjoy sharing Revolution's unique approaches and wonder I would have been able to score if I'd known them many moons ago. Revolution shares my commitment to engaging students visually, auditorily, and interpersonally as well as verbally -- to teach to the whole class, and to provide skills that will not only help with the SAT, but will also empower them beyond it.

Hometown: Scarsdale, NY
College: Swarthmore College
Resides in: Astoria, NY
About Me:
Before going to Swarthmore college to study English Literature and Education, I lived in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Cleveland. During my college years, I visited Senegal, Israel, Palestine, and Peru. Needless to say, I love to travel. I am also a lover of books and the written/spoken word, films, jazz music, and nature. My favorite authors are Dostoevsky, James Joyce, Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, and Samuel Beckett. My favorite musicians are Miles Davis, John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, and Keith Jarrett. I have worked on behalf of the environment in a number of capacities, including leading a crew of Washington DC youth in building park trails. My number one passion is working with youth. I love engaging in exciting ideas and helping youth accomplish their dreams. I am thrilled to work with students in the pursuit of ideas and the fulfillment of personal goals.
I am a Pennsylvania-certified teacher, and you can find out about my time teaching high school at marcengel.weebly.com
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution because I value the company's emphasis on analytical thinking and strong relationships between instructors and tutors.
Franklin F.
Hometown: nomadic childhood
College: Marquette Univeristy
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
With a father as a professor and doctor, it afforded me the ability to grow up all over the world but education, learning and teaching has always been a home to me. After a pre-med degree with a bachelors in psychology and minor in biology I found myself attending the International Sommelier Guild for my Sommelier diploma. I now also teach for ISG, attempting to promote oenophilic love to abound, just as I hope to spread the love for quadratic functions.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I have a passion for education and love to teach. To give someone an "aah-ha" moment is a great feeling.
David F.
Hometown: Lake Grove, NY
College: Northeastern University (Undergrad), Dowling College (Grad)
Resides in: Lake Grove, NY
About Me:
I'm a recent graduate of Northeastern University, having successfully completed a dual-major degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. I have also recently enrolled in graduate school at Dowling College for a Masters in Secondary Education. In my free time, you can usually find me in front of a computer or a musical instrument, and when the weather is right, outside playing sports.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Having taught with Revolution Prep for over two years now, I think I can safely say that I teach because of the impact I get to have on the students. I find that not only am I able to teach them the material specific to the standardized tests, but I'm also able to share with them my ever-increasing array of life experiences and really connect with them on a more adult level than they're used to. I see my role not as a means to an end, but more as a bridge for that awkward gap between the high school mindset and that of college-bound student. While I suppose I could attempt to make that connection with any test preparation company, I truly believe in what Revolution Prep is doing for these kids, and I'm proud to be a part of it!
Hannah F.
Hometown: Oak Park, CA
College: UCLA
Resides in: Brooklyn, NY
About Me:
I spent the last four years of my life exploring the vast world of wonders embodied by the college experience. After spending my first year at the University of San Diego, I did a few transferring acrobatics and wound up finishing up the final two years of my undergraduate career as a Cultural Anthropology major at UCLA. As a college student, my passion for environmental and social justice activism emerged and developed profoundly. Now this passion and awareness continues to propel my daily actions and thoughts. Through my studies, I enthusiastically cultivated my curiosity surrounding the human condition and began my journey of rediscovering the interconnectedness of human beings with each other, with the planet, and with all of its living inhabitants. Having graduated from UCLA in June of 2008, I am now in the throes of figuring out the rest of my life, or at least the next couple of years. Wish me luck!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I am possessed by a deep desire to instigate positive and beautiful transformations within this web of life we inhabit. As a Revolutionary I see myself playing an active role in this process by contributing to the growth and inspiration of our youth. High school students rock my world! The phenomenal potential and enthusiasm they harbor inspires me and brings a smile to my face. I hope to help them master this monster we call the SAT so that they can attain their academic goals and widen the field of opportunities life has to offer them.

About Me:
I can complete the Sunday Times crossword puzzle! I have been: a lawyer...bass player...Restaurant Owner and Manager....having a child has definitely increased my interest in teaching. The images from the Hubble Telescope simply boggle my mind. I am glad, however, that there is not an astronomy section on the SAT.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I truly enjoy the challenge of connecting with today's teens, and I love when they GET it! I also am thoroughly impressed with Revolution's whole concept and mission.

About Me:
I am the oldest of 4 children. I grew up in New Jersey. I graduated from Boston College, where I studied Elementary Education and Theater. At BC, I swam varsity my Freshman year and then quit for the Theater. I love to travel and after graduation, I backpacked with my best friend around Europe for 8 weeks. When I got back I started more school at The Circle in the Square Theater Conservatory. I finished this 2 year program in May. I currently spend my days auditioning, taking extra classes and teach and tutor after school and at night. My favorite subject in school was biology, my least favorite was history. I have too much energy for my own good, love the beach, the theater, reading and anything having to do with friends or food :)
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because I love teaching. Pretty simple. I am a nerd and I love teaching :)

About Me:
During my freshman year at Queens College, I had decided that I wanted to become a Pediatrician. I love children and helping others, but soon realized that my true passion is literature and teaching the English language. I started out as an English tutor at Queens College and upon graduating, I immediately started my graduate studies in English Literature and I was offered a position as an adjunct. But it didn't end there! I am currently attending Stony Brook University as an MFA student of Creative Writing and Literature. I enjoy traveling, cooking, knitting, painting, and writing. I am an adventurous and ambitious person who believes that with enough effort and determination each person can make their dreams come true.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I decided to become an instructor for Revolution Prep simply because it is one of the leading SAT Prep companies.
Andrea G.
Hometown: Sonora, CA
College: UC Berkeley
Resides in: Forest Hills, NY
About Me:
I grew up in a small town in rural California. I left it as soon as possible to do my undergrad work at UC Berkeley. There I double majored in Sociology and Psychology. After graduation I joined the Peace Corps where I spent two years in the Middle East. I travelled around for a year or so more trying to renormalize before I found myself living in New York and applying to graduate programs. In the scant free time I have I am somewhat of a travel bug.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe that the SAT is a playing field that has to be leveled. My goal is to give the people I work with an edge going into what may be the most important test of their high school years.

Hometown: Staten Island
College: Seton Hall University
Resides in: Staten Island, NY
About Me:
I graduated from Hunter College in May 2008 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in English. I am currently attending Seton Hall University to obtain my M.A./Ed.S in Professional Counseling. I love to learn and express myself creatively. I enjoy music, painting, drawing, and reading. I also love to run, dance, swim, and play tennis when I have the time!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My interest in working with Revolution Prep lies in the fact that I greatly enjoy working in an academic setting. I love to learn, and love helping other people learn. I believe that learning can be made fun and interesting, and I hope to make students preparing for the S.A.T. feel the same. I remember preparing for the S.A.T. and realize how important it is to have a knowledgeable and fun tutor to help you. I also believe that getting a college degree is vital in today's society, and it would bring me great satisfaction to think I helped someone achieve their goals by getting into college.

Hometown: Mattituck, NY
College: New School University (Bachelor's in Design and Management) and Dowling College (Master's in Education)
Resides in: Riverhead, NY
About Me:
I love to teach and I love to learn. Those happen concurrently--often students don't realize that what they give their teachers is as valuable as what their teachers give to them! When I started college, I was unsure what I wanted to do. It wasn't until after I got my Bachelor's that I realized I wanted to teach. I would never, however, discount the knowledge I received since it helped shape the way I think. I live with my cat, Cleo, who is huge. I currently am a substitute teacher at the elemenatary level in addition to working for Rev Prep. I love to read, especially poetry and fiction. Some of my favorite authors are Jhumpa Lahiri, Ian McEwan, Jeanette Winterson, Pablo Neruda, Sharon Olds and Henry Miller. I enjoy Scrabble, yoga, writing, sweating, eating, taking warm baths, investigating new recipes, traveling, watching films (both good and B), listening to music, and after all that, sleeping.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I don't think any test should have so much weight over anybody's future, so I enjoy the idea of taking that power and putting it into the hands of students. I like the idea of equipping students with an arsenal of weapons (in the form of strategies) to conquer these tests with! It makes me feel good to help students improve their future prospects, and I genuinely enjoy the time I spend teaching. At Revolution Prep, I have already met some interesting people and am very much on board with the methods and practices they employ. I like to make things simple, and Rev Prep has that in the bag.

Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
The SATs are evil! I really love helping people understand that they can beat these tests and use them to HELP them get into the colleges of their choice!
Kalada H.
Hometown: Sicklerville,NJ
College: Boston University/ Queens College
Resides in: Brooklyn , NY
About Me:
Revolution Prep is rad. it has recently been brought to my attention that I may, in fact, also be rad. As such, it only makes sense that we merge into voltron. But seriously, I love teaching, and I enjoy the feeling of helping someone understand a concept which, up until minutes ago, may have been foreign to him/her.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I am a history nerd. possibly real higher power-willing, I will be a PHd student come next spring in the aforementioned field. Law school is also a possibility, though a decidedly bleak one. I originally hail from Nigeria, was raised in South Jersey, and have an affinity for wawa lemonade. I plan on saving the world. Seriously. That is, however, the only serious thing about this profile; I enjoy jokes. I don't take myself too seriously, but I do take work and school seriously, so in that regard, I guess one could say that I take certain aspects of myself seriously, though only microcosmic characteristics. Run-on sentences are cool. But not on the SAT, that is uncool.

Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I am one of those rare breeds: a writer who has an aptitude for math. I believe in the Revolution Prep model and approach and am grateful for any opportunity to teach
Stephen K.
Hometown: Charlotte, NC
College: Davidson College
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
I moved to New York to pursue acting and directing. I'm a huge fan of the stage as well as an unabashed Anglophile; England produces most significant forces in my life, such as Shakespeare, Ian McEwan, Harold Pinter, and Harry Potter. I love to travel, and I've spent [studious] time in Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Italy, and of course, the United Kingdom. My favorite herb is basil, and I'm a pro on Nintendo Wii bowling and tennis, where I play as Bruce Springsteen. Go Mets, Panthers, and Bobcats!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution Prep has earned my love, respect, and participation because of its admirable goal of adding some spice to one of life's most off-putting enigmas, the SAT.
Daniel K.
Hometown: Staten Island, NY
College: Cornell
Resides in: Staten Island, NY
About Me:
I believe firmly that if you try to get to know her or him, every person in the world is complex and interesting, and I trust that I am no exception. There is so much to know about anyone that I am at a loss to proceed. I suppose I'll just go with it. I try to look at things from as revealing a perspective as I can. I try to divine the true nature of things to further my understanding of the world, to become wiser as a result, and, ultimately, to use my knowledge and wisdom to help others.
This brings me to the single most powerful force operating in my mind. I have a sense of what is the best for all people involved and a sense of fair play. It is a burning need inside me to help fix things that have gone wrong and to restore the balance. If I see an injustice or someone hurt, my mind whizzes through possibilities of ways to affect the situation. If I am rendered powerless to assist, by whatever circumstances may be, I certainly feel bad about it. I feel like I always have the best interests of everyone else in mind, and not so much regard for myself. This seems even to me to be ridiculously altruistic and self-promoting. But even if this is the case, believing it probably brings me closer to my goal than if I would deny it outright.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I discovered a passion for teaching in high school, leading me to study the language with great precision and attention to detail, linking whatever linguistic phenomena I observed to their modern English manifestations whenever I could. This gave me an appreciation for the subtleties and tricks that the SAT writers use in all three and I thoroughly enjoy passing this on to other people so that they may be demystified.
In short, I got started because Revolution actually called back. I was then enthralled by their mission and superior approach to tutoring the SAT, and that is why I stick with it.
Laura K.
Hometown: Orefield, PA
College: Harvard
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
I grew up in Pennsylvania and went to school in New Jersey and Massachusetts, so New York was always the site of sanctioned (and unsanctioned) field trips. A few months ago it came to my attention that some people actually live here, so I thought “why not?” The rest is legend, or will be as soon as I succeed in revolutionizing the youth of America. In the mean time you’ll find me reading novels and poems, watching movies, listening to old music, or writing about one of the aforementioned. Oh, and I’m studying to be a doctor. Try not to get sick in 2016.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I have three younger siblings, so I’ve experienced the massive drag that is the SAT over and over and over again. Watching students endure this bizarre rite of passage convinced me that there has to be a better, smarter way to teach and master this test. My job is to help students stay calm, clever, and quick on their feet. And I still remember, hazily, what it’s like to have fun.
Gretchen K.
Hometown: Salt Lake City, Utah
College: Wesleyan University
Resides in: Brooklyn, NY
About Me:
I was born in Wyoming and grew up mostly in Salt Lake City, Utah, amid the majestic Rocky Mountains. In high school I loved being involved with theatre, both onstage and off. Ten years later I'm still good friends with my actor and techie buddies from back in the day! After graduation, I headed to Connecticut for college where I had a fabulous time, gained a wealth of knowledge about the world around me, and met more amazing and wonderful people with whom I am still friends today. After college I moved to New York City to pursue a graduate degree in Urban Education. I am now a certified teacher for General and Special Education. I taught in an elementary school for three years before coming to Revolution Prep. Now I am loving the opportunity to work with high school students all around New York City! In my free time I read (a lot!), write, and ride my bike. I also love to dance and cook -- two things I learned how to do from my talented housemates and friends at college.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My college experience was critical to my personal and intellectual development. I remember the intense application process and the long wait to hear back from schools. I want to do everything I can to help you have your best shot at getting into schools that will be great for you and your development. A solid SAT score helps. Revolution Prep uses an effective curriculum, employs excellent teachers, and--most importantly--attracts the best students from all walks of life.

About Me:
I grew up with my nose in a book and the lights off, as a result I am extraordinarily nearsighted (but only in the literal sense). I love to discuss infinity, the universe, and the meaning of life. I like popsicles in the summer and hot chocolate with marshmallows in the winter.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution Prep aims to give all students equal opportunities for conquering the SAT. That's fantastic, and I'm happy to be a part of it.

About Me:
I am an aspiring musician and work as a legal assistant in a small real estate law firm. I am considering a transition into teaching as a career, and that's part of why I'm teaching for Revolution Prep.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Because it's fun, and I have learned a lot doing it already. I feel that it is a particularly good use of my skill set, and as a performer, it's nice to have a captive audience to whom I can tell my lame math jokes.

About Me:
After earning my BA in English and Secondary Education, I moved to New York where I did my graduate work in Creative Writing at NYU. For two years, I was a private teacher for a rising pop star for her 10th & 11th grade years.
In my free time, I love going to concerts, writing, seeing shows, and watching football.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love being in a classroom & working with students, & Revolution's goals and strategies fit my personality well. Revolution gives me the latitude to not only ensure my students are mastering the material, but that we're having a good time while we conquer the SAT together!
Benjamin M.
Hometown: Merchantville, NJ
College: Princeton University
Resides in: Brooklyn, NY
About Me:
I was born in Brooklyn, but grew up just outside Philadelphia in a small New Jersey town. In college, I majored in music composition and theory, but also had a bit of an addiction to Russian history and literature. This, of course, lead to a summer in Russia, studying in St. Petersburg and then traveling across the entire country on the Trans-Siberian Railroad. After college, I spent some time in New York, then in Charleston, SC, toured the country with a band for a year, and recently returned to Brooklyn (full circle!). I'm very excited to be teaching for Revolution Prep!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I remember how overwhelming the entire college application process was, especially the SAT. I truly believe that the Revolution Prep strategies are the BEST out there and they will not only help students score higher, but they will also ease much of the test anxiety!

About Me:
No matter where I move, or what else I am doing, I continue to find myself tutoring or teaching in some capacity. Being a pretty huge nerd myself, I place an enormous value on education, and believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn and progress. In teaching for Revolution Prep, I hope to help make it a little bit easier for each desiring student to reach their very own pie in the sky: college! I am so excited to be part of the Revolution!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I just moved to New York City to dance professionally after graduating with a degree in Psychology and Performing Arts in June 2008. When I am not prancing around, I read, explore new places, travel just about anywhere, and do anything that involves being physically active. If and when I finish my dance career, I'll invest my energy in developmental psychology. For now, I am loving New York!

About Me:
Born and raised in the countryside of New Hampshire, I attended St. Paul's School and followed that up with 4 years at Vassar College, majoring in Art. A passion for comics and foreign languages led me to Tokyo, where I taught English and did my best to break into the Manga biz. I still harbor that dream. At the moment, I tutor by night and do art production assistance and admin work by day. In between I sleep, eat, and draw, not always in that order.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I have my qualms about standardized testing, and I'd like to do my bit to help other kids get over the hump on the SAT. Multiple choice questions have always come naturally for me; there's enough suffering in the world, so why not help alleviate some of it and get a paycheck in the process? But, ultimately, helping others with something I can do well always feels good, and that's the main reason: )

Hometown: Canton, MI
College: Harvard University
Resides in: Long Island City, NY
About Me:
The busier I am, the happier I am! When I'm not teaching, tutoring or coaching, I moonlight as an actor on NYC-filmed movies & television shows. My cooking each week is usually inspired by whatever Italian creation I've seen most recently on the Food Network. It is not uncommon for me to seek out lost French and Russian tourists in order to practice my language skills, and I'm slowly working my way through the world's classics one used bookstore at a time. I'm obsessed with Long Island City, and split my time between New York and Boston.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
It's got the resources of a big name company, with a small town touch. And because I like to help kids not only "beat the test," but treat it as a friend and cuddle up with it at night!

Resides in: Brooklyn, NY
About Me:
I am a teacher, an activist, and an aspiring librarian. In college I majored in International Studies, Latin American Studies, Women's Studies and Peace Studies. Since then I have worked as an organizer (and Rev Prep teacher!) in Boston and New York, and have traveled and worked in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Because I'm a revolutionary!
And... I love the idea of helping students ace a test that is, unfortunately, a pretty important test! I have always loved teaching, and have a particular knack for explaining Math. In high school I used to take over for my teacher when he was unable to explain Algebraic problems to my fellow students.

Hometown: New Haven, CT

About Me:
I spent the last three years teaching ESL and studying Mandarin in Taiwan. Prior to that, I had worked as a counselor in San Francisco. Having effectively avoided winter for the better part of 5 years, I decided to come back home and see if I still hated snow or not. As it turns out, I do. But I love the people and I love the food, so I'm sticking around for a while. Currently waiting to hear back from NY area Political Science PhD programs. Cursed application process!!!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I took the GRE last year, and preparing for (read: obsessing over) it made me realize how much I loathe the whole institution of standardized test taking. If ever given a chance, I vowed to take ETS and the College Board down a notch or two. Working for Revolution helps me help kids to "stick it to the man."

About Me:
Hello! I studied math and economics at Wesleyan University and have been tutoring math and SAT prep in the city for four years. I live in Brooklyn and also work as a part-time musician - I play guitar and bass but mostly do electronic production. I like to have some fun in the classroom, so come energized!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My younger sister was never a "math person", and I became her default math tutor for most of her academic life. She often felt frustrated and discouraged by her experiences in school, but somehow she always seemed to understand the material once we went over it together a few times at home. All it took was a little bit of patience and humor, and she was able to relax and approach the subject in a constructive way.
When I discovered Revolution Prep, I was instantly drawn to it because the teaching style and philosophy it fosters are perfectly in sync with my own, and with the lessons I learned working with my sister (and all of the other students I've taught since). The Revolution curriculum is great, the people are wonderful, and I'm excited to be part of the team!

About Me:
I am a crazy New York actress! I love to sing, tap dance, and play volleyball in my spare time. I like wheat thins, Honey Nut Cheerios, Will and Grace, and I LOVE the Gingerbread latte at Starbucks. Since it costs way too much money, I found a way to beat the system. Okay here's the formula: If I order a Gingerbread Latte with soy, it costs $4.75. If I order half a cup of coffee with a shot of Gingerbread, it costs. $1.70. + Half a cup of soy milk and nutmeg on the bar (for $0) = for a total of $1.70 instead of the outrageous and extremely lame $4.75! I also like Facebook, blogging, and hanging out with interesting people!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I want to help y'all (yes, I'm from Texas) kick the SAT's you know what!
Sam P.
Hometown: Great Neck, NY
College: Binghamton University
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
Sam hails from the legendary state of New York. As a child, his first words were "SAT prep." His second words were, "I regret my choice for my first words." His final words will be "I hope my Revolution Prep profile was funny." He enjoys playing and listening to music, eating a GOOD slice of pizza, and writing autobiographical information in the third person. Sam and his friend once ate an entire box of Coco Pebbles in one sitting. It was good. He was in California for a year and liked it, but now he's back in New York! Thank you and goodbye.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I enjoy teaching things to people and Revolution Prep gives me the chance to do just that! How perfect! I love the idea of teaching and learning things in a fun and stimulating way. I hope to spend much of my life teaching and Revolution Prep should prove to be a great start!
Emily R.
Hometown: PA (but I'm a NYer at heart!)
College: Syracuse University and City College
Resides in: Sunnyside, NY
About Me:
I majored in journalism but realized shortly after graduation that I was meant to be a teacher, not a tv news anchor! I moved to NYC 8 years ago to get my M.S in education and have been a teacher here ever since.
When I'm not in a classroom with students or training new teachers, I'm trying to fit in a billion different personal passions including running, yoga, pottery (think Demi Moore in Ghost), cooking, crossword puzzling, gaming (video and board), and restaurant hopping. Whew. Oh, probably most important of all - I'm a cheese addict and have no interest in kicking the habit.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Simply put, I love helping students reach their academic goal. So many students see standardized tests as a barrier to their top choice college (or any college at all) and that breaks my heart. ANY student can reach their college dreams. No silly 4 hour test is going to stand in our way!

About Me:
I just received my BA in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA as a member of the Class of 2009. At school, much of my time was taken up competing for the Varsity Track and Field team as a pole vaulter.
I am also a 2005 graduate of Saint Anthony's High School in South Huntington where I competed in Football and Track and Field.
While at Holy Cross, I was given the opportunity to spend a semester interning in the United States Senate, which one one of the greatest experiences of my life. I hope to soon take the LSATs and attend law school, before pursuing a law career.
As far as hobbies, I love watching and playing sports, especially baseball and football. I also enjoy Hulu, Applebee's, and fantasy football.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I joined Revolution Prep because I believe that the SATs should be a great opportunity to improve your standing with colleges, but too often are looked at negatively. I want to help put the test in its proper perspective and give students the tools to come away from each test successful.
John R.
Hometown: Kansas City, Missouri
College: New York University
Resides in: Union City, NJ
About Me:
I'm from Kansas City originally. I chose to come to New York City because it's the best, most diverse place in the world. I like long walks through the city, and by that I don't mean walking from Lincoln Center to Penn Station. I mean all day walks, from Inwood to the Battery, from Chinatown to the Rockaways, up and down the Bronx River, or all the way down Greenpoint and Roosevelt Avenues from the East River to Flushing and beyond. I love what the city really is: not a taxi ride, but where the taxi drivers live. I prefer East Broadway to West Broadway, and Sunnyside to SoHo. I moved here from Kansas City only 7 years ago for school, but New York has quickly became home.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because I like to help students see how much easier the SAT can be if you learn how to take it. The College Board is trying to trick you! See past the tricks and you can get the score to get you to college, the best years of your life, where *you* can decide where you're going. That's why I'm here.

A few facts: I work for a non-profit legal services organzation in Brooklyn; I was once hit by a small bus; I'm learning blues piano; I root really hard for the Philadelphia Eagles; I will go to law school, eventually; and I will drop whatever I'm doing any time Ferris Bueller's Day Off is on TV.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I like seeing kids get the "aHA!" moment and I like helping people get the knowledge they need to achieve their goals.

About Me:
I used to be fascinated with elephants. Then, for a time, it was flamingos. Now my interests include audio engineering (my major), watching obscure movies and medical procedures on TV, and daydreaming about the day when I will have enough time, space and moxie to take apart an entire saxophone and put it back together in working order.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution Prep takes an innovative approach to standardized test preparation and uses strategies that are both simple and highly effective. Also, I like to participate in activities that require me to use the word "Pythagorean."

I only work for the best, and Revolution Prep has the most innovative and customized techniques I have seen.

About Me:
I love to travel. When I was a kid I decided that I would visit all 50 states. I haven't succeeded yet because I discovered that traveling out of the country is even more fun. In college I got the chance to live in Paris, France (one of the many cool things about college) and I've made my way through Greece, France, England, Spain, Italy, and India. When I'm not trekking around the world, I spend most of my time watching TV shows that my mom says will rot my brain. Hasn't happened yet. Moms aren't always right.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
When I was in high school, I thought the SAT's were long, hard, and boring; and they have only gotten longer, harder, and more boring. I teach for Revolution Prep because I want to show students that the test is not as impossible as it might first seem.

About Me:
I was born and raised in New York City in a family of four: My father, mother, younger brother and me. Throughout my childhood I was a professional singer, actor and dancer, but when I reached the end of my high school career I realized acting was more of a hobby to me than a profession, so I headed toward more academic pursuits. I chose to attend the University of Michigan, where I enjoyed my time supremely. (It would have been better if it were a LITTLE warmer...) I majored in business (mainly marketing) and Japanese language. Technically, I attended the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and instead of a BA or BS I received a BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration).
Random facts about me: I love using Wii Fit -- it's my gym! I know French and Spanish in addition to Japanese, and I have been to France, Spain and Japan for a combined 6.5 months. Coffee is much too strong for me, so I drink Earl Grey tea instead.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Studying for the SAT was a monstrous task for me as a high schooler, and I was extraordinarily nervous and tense. What helped me through was the patience and attentiveness of a tutor whom my parents had hired for me. This tutor was instrumental in my improvement, and my score rose significantly because of his help. I want to be that tutor (or classroom teacher) for other high schoolers, so I can assuage their tension and help them succeed as my tutor did.

About Me:
I'm a young theatre professional who is an aspiring Director, Producer, and Theatre Historian. When I'm not teaching the SAT, I'm mainly acting as Assistant to a few different Broadway Directors. Other than the theater, I also love riding on buses, eating exotic flavors of ice cream, and thinking outside of the box in all situations. My little sister is my favorite person in the world, and I would never live anywhere but New York City.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because I love that moment when each student realizes they actually CAN kick the SAT's butt! I have conquered the test with tons of high schoolers, and hope to work with many more.

About Me:
My life in two paragraphs:
When I was in fourth grade, I got a little teary eyed because I couldn't understand fractions. From that moment on, I vowed that I would not let myself or anyone else be intimidated by math.
When I was in 6th grade, I quit the piano lessons my parents made me take. Three years later I got really into guitar. Nine years after that, I finished getting an electrical engineering degree and I moved to New York to build and run a recording studio with my brother.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
When I moved to New York, the only plan I had was to create and record music. I needed a secondary plan to pay the bills. I always enjoyed teaching and working with classmates to understand school material, so I started looking for tutoring jobs. When I heard about Revolution Prep, I knew I wanted to work for them. The fact that they will teach students who want to learn, whether or not they can afford the course sold me on the company immediately.

About Me:
After studying to be a theatre director in college, I moved to New York and started working in the nonprofit sector. I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in public policy at Baruch College.
When I'm not teaching or being taught, I like to cook (even though I'm pretty terrible at it), I try desperately to get through my ever-growing pile of magazines, and I love cross-stitching.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I think a lot of students see the SAT as a barrier to getting into college, but the SAT can also be an opportunity to show off your skills to schools.
I like being able to show students that even though the SAT isn't much fun, everyone can learn to improve their score.
Lindsay W.
Hometown: Waterloo, IL

About Me:
I grew up in a small town in southern Illinois, but I always knew I was really a city girl. So I headed to New York University for college, where I majored in English and minored in Math. During and after college, I worked in the food world in several capacities - for a baker, a chocolate shop, an upscale restaurant, and several farmers at the city's farmers markets. I am currently working on my English PhD, and I decided to balance the lonely task of research with the energetic atmosphere of the Revolution classroom. I love books (mostly old ones), movies, singing, biking, and baking (I have a dangerous sweet tooth!)
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
As a graduate student, I started teaching writing to college freshmen and quickly learned that many students are intimidated by seemingly tricky skills that are actually quite basic when explained properly. I love Revolution Prep because their curriculum is centered around this idea that students CAN tackle the tricks of the SAT with just some practice and some key strategies. They have figured out the best way to approach the SAT - who wouldn't want in on that?

About Me:
I've career jumped a bit. I've worked in biotech labs, was a paleontologist for a few years, spent a while as a geochemist and field geologist for the government (where I worked on the global warming problem, amongst others), moonlighted as an EMT and a community health worker, and all the while spent time teaching and tutoring on the side. I've taught classroom and one-on-one with students ranging from kindergarten to graduate school over the years, and quite enjoy continuing to do so while pursuing my latest career endeavor -- medical school. In my scant free time I enjoy reading, scrabble, music, and trying to travel as much as I can.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Call me crazy, but I didn't mind the SAT's so much in High School. It just seemed like a giant puzzle to me. So, a few years after taking them myself, I started helping other people figure out the puzzle...after living in a half dozen places in the last 10 years, I ended up in NYC a few years back, and then found my way here to Revolution where I'm happy to help even more people crack the game that is the SAT.

Hometown: Los Altos, CA
College: Stanford University
Resides in: New York, NY
About Me:
I grew up in the Bay Area, spending my free time reading every book I could find, climbing (and falling out of) trees, acting in plays and teaching about theatre. I then went to Stanford, where I spent every waking second acting in plays, participating in the crazy antics of the Stanford Band, working in my co-op-- and, of course, majoring in two very different passions-- Drama (with an acting focus) and Human Biology (with a focus in international and reproductive health). I've spent the past two summers abroad, again pursuing my dual interests. I studied acting at a conservatory in London, and the next year, I worked with an NGO in Tanzania to lead an HIV awareness campaign in a rural village. My summer in Tanzania was one of the most amazing times of my life, and you might still find me occasionally muttering something in Swahili, or talking about obscure diseases and bungee-jumping into the Nile in Uganda.
Since graduating, I've been working in a marketing department at a local theatre company, learning the joys of bunion surgery, and choosing and teaching future volunteers for my program in Tanzania. I just moved to New York this fall, and I'm excited to teach here while also pursuing a career in the theatre.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution Prep differs from other standardized testing companies, because we really believe that every student should have access to SAT prep and a chance to learn the skills to get into a great college. Plus, I love teaching and meeting new people, and at Revolution Prep, I get to do both!

About Me:
Although born in New York City, I spent my toddler years in Mexico and Paris. We then moved to the Netherlands, where I went to the French Lycee for a while, and later, the American School of the Hague. Alongside English, I speak Spanish, French and Dutch. Really!
I majored in Math at RPI, came to NYC for a job in banking. After a few years, I went back to music school and got my Masters in Music Composition. I currently teach math and music full-time at the middle and high school levels.
Other fun facts:
• I have written music for and musically directed theater works Off-Off Broadway
• I have worked for graphic design and production companies and trained employees in the use of desktop publishing
• I have freelanced as a movie translator
• I have run summer music festivals
• I am an origami fanatic
• I love to make home made ice cream and pasta
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Beyond having a great program, I am particularly struck by Revolution Prep's mission of making their facilities available to students regardless of socio-economic status. If we are to educate future citizens of an increasingly complex society, it is vital to provide all students with skills that will open up opportunities for them.

About Me:
As an undergrad at Vassar, my concentrations were in English and French. I love the performing arts. I was a dancer/choreographer for Vassar's student-run dance organization and helped found a musical theatre performance group there. I am currently working on my M.A. in Humanities & Social Thought at NYU. Any spare time I have is generally spent reading. Someday I hope to be an English professor and share my passion for literature with others. In addition to my academic interests, I love to ski and don't think I could ever live anywhere without snow. I also have an undying love for diner food, especially cheese fries.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
When I was in high school, the SAT ruined what would otherwise have been a lovely Saturday morning. I was nervous, intimidated, and unsure of myself. Test-takers don't need to feel that way. Since I can't go back in time and change my own SAT experience, I want to help students feel empowered and prepared to conquer the SAT so they can go on to the colleges of their choice.
