Alexandrina A.
Hometown: San Francisco
College: Brown University
Resides in: Oakland, CA
About Me:
Feel free to call me Alex. I'm Bay Area born and raised, and a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco. I was a recruited athlete to Brown for women's rowing, and concentrated in Public and Private Sector Organizations. I'm finishing my MA at San Francisco State in Ethnic Studies this semester. My academic interests are in youth, digital media, and internet identities. I'm a hip-hop aficionado and a certified yoga instructor.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe in access to higher education for ALL students.
April A.
Hometown: Menlo Park
College: Notre Dame de Namur University
Resides in: Windsor, CA
About Me:
I grew up in Menlo Park, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Stanford University. From about 7th grade on I spent most of my free time involved in theatre; first at my schools, and then later at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre. Despite all the shenanigans of being a child theatre geek, I managed to graduate from High School with a 4.1 GPA.
Next I moved on to being a theatre geek in College at NDNU. I majored in Theatre Arts with a Performance Emphasis, and minored in Business. Once again, despite spending most of my time reading plays and wearing funny clothes, I managed to graduate Magna Cum Laude.
Recently I moved up to Windsor, and I am really enjoying the nice weather! In my free time I can be found knitting, crocheting, reading, playing on the computer, or exploring my new surroundings via mini road trips.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Every student deserves to go to the college they really want to attend. By helping students improve their SAT scores, I am helping them get into the school of their dreams; and that is awesome!
Marika A.
Hometown: Carmel, CA
College: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
Resides in: Carmel, CA
About Me:
I was born in Carmel and spent four and a half great years at Cal Poly studying Kinesiology. Most people don't know what that is, or even how to pronounce it, so for all you wondering out there: it is the study of the movement of bones and muscles. I absolutely LOVED my education, however, as my career counselor so kindly pointed out, I am basically unemployable without grad school! So, grad school here I come...While in college, I was fortunate enough to study abroad in the Czech Republic and travel around Eastern Europe, which is very different than Western Europe if you have been there..definitely "Czech" it out :) I love art, reading and anything outdoors. I love kids and have spent my time doing everything from summer camps and swimming lessons to tutoring and coaching.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I think that any student who has a strong desire to go to their first choice school can make it happen. The SAT is an integral part of gaining that acceptance letter. Revolution Prep has designed a solid program that I am proud to promote and share with all students, regardless of financial status!
Iskra A.
Hometown: Mountain View
College: Santa Clara University
Resides in: Mountain View, CA
About Me:
I have been living in Mountain View since 8th grade and I have a BS in Business Management from Santa Clara University. I love traveling and visiting places :)
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because they are more than an SAT Company; they take care of their students, their employees and the schools where students attend. They also offer free exams, scholarships, and this kind of work ethic hard to find anywhere.
Melineh A.
Hometown: Redwood City
College: UCLA/ Santa Clara University, School of Law
Resides in: Redwood City, CA
About Me:
If you can't pronounce it, just call me Mel =) I was raised in the Bay Area (Redwood City)- so of course I'm a 49er faithful! I moved to SoCal for undergrad (UCLA- go BRUINS!!), earned a bachelor's in Sociology and a specialization in Business Administration. Lived the "LA" life for a year, then moved back up to the Bay Area to attend law school (Santa Clara University). Got the law degree, passed the bar and started working at a non-profit, teaching law-related education, then actually practicing civil litigation. But nothing's as fun as teaching!!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep for two simple reasons...1- all standardized tests are tricky and I take great pleasure in giving away the little secrets to conquering them and 2- because I've always had a passion for teaching/ tutoring and help youth achieve a higher education.
Alexandra A.
Hometown: Lafayette, CA
College: University of California - Berkeley
Resides in: Davis, CA
About Me:
After graduating from UC-Berkeley in 2005 with a BA in Anthropology, I moved to New York to do Pre-Med work. Consequently, I'm heading to law school in the Fall - go figure.
I love Cal football (GO BEARS!), sunny days, traveling the world, dessert, live music, mafia movies, wearing flip flops, and the sentence completion sections of the SAT...seriously.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I really love Revolution's values as well as their approach to the dreaded SAT. Not only is this job incredibly rewarding, but it's fun and requires no uncomfortable attire.
And besides, where else can one work with great people, help students achieve their goals, and perform in front of a captive audience?
Brian B.
Hometown: Cambridge, MA
College: Northeastern University
Resides in: Alemeda, CA
About Me:
Originally from Lowell, MA, I went to Northeastern University for a degree in Music with a Concentration in Music Industry. I decided to stick around the area after graduating and I currently play music as my 9-5 gig (but no musician is ever really 9-5).
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because I've had to deal with the SATs like all of you and I know how much of a pain it is but also how beatable it is.
Jonathan B.
Hometown: Fremont
College: University of California, Irvine
Resides in: Fremont, CA
About Me:
I graduated from UCI with a BA in Studio Art. My studies primarily focused on photography, digital imaging, and critique. I intend to pursue an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Photography or a Ph.D. in Media Studies.
I am a classical pianist and have been playing since I was six. My favorite composers are Debussy and Chopin, whom I admire for their evocative and emotional styles. I am also a food fanatic and love eating at interesting restaurants or experimenting in the kitchen. If it's delicious, I'm there.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
While a student has infinitely more dimensions than a standardized test can measure, universities use those scores to unfairly quantify a student's mental aptitude. I work for Revolution in order to level the college admissions playing field and give opportunities to those who might have otherwise been overlooked because of their scores. A good score only lets more of a student's good qualities come through in the application.
Kalpa B.
Hometown: Cupertino, CA
College: University of California, Los Angeles
Resides in: Cupertino, CA
About Me:
I double majored in psychobiology and English literature at UCLA. I loved every bit of my time at UCLA. Now I'm pursuing a lifelong passion and dream- studying music, specifically vocal performance. I am studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I'm glad to delve back into my academic roots by working with revolution prep.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I feel like I am doing meaningful and significant work by teaching at revolution prep. I love to see a certain strategy or concept click with the students. I am honored to be helping them with something that has an impact on shaping their future.
Matthew B.
Hometown: Berkeley, CA
College: Columbia University, Oxford University, SF State
Resides in: Berkeley, CA
About Me:
I returned to the Bay Area five years ago after living in New York City for university and then in the UK for graduate school. I've lived in France and Italy, speak four languages fluently and two more somewhat functionally. In my free time, I work as a production potter in west Berkeley, run in Tilden's network of trails, practice yoga, swim in Lake Anza and travel. I plan to go to medical school in a few years after all my pre-requisites are completed with my eyes on family practice. I can also prepare tiramisu and drive a stick-shift.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution offers a lot of flexibility for teachers and students while still remaining grounded in a discrete, effective system of strategies. I also enjoy working with high schoolers and trying to figure out specific methods to address each individual student in a way that is pertinent to his or her needs.
Katherine B.
Hometown: Kenosha, WI
College: U of Wisconsin,Monterey Institute of Int'l Studies
Resides in: Macungie, PA
About Me:
I grew up in Wisconsin, commonly known as the land of cheeseheads and cows, or Americas Dairyland. I went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison and triple majored in Political Science, French and International Studies. During my time there, I studied abroad in France, something I highly recommend! After college, I went back to France and taught English to middle school and high school students. That experience helped me realize how much I enjoy teaching and led me to my current studies a Masters Degree in TESOL. In my free time I enjoy exploring this beautiful area, traveling and running.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
First of all, I love teaching. Revolution is great because I can help contribute to students success on the SAT. I enjoy giving students the step ahead that I wish I had when I was getting ready for college.
Kimberly B.
Hometown: San Clemente, CA
College: UC San Diego
Resides in: San Francisco, CA
About Me:
I really love Rev Prep! I think their materials and curriculum are top notch, and I love how accessible their courses are to all students. I teach because I want to make preparing for the SAT as fun as humanly possible!!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I am new to the Bay Area, and am loving it! I grew up in Orange County, on the beaches of San Clemente. I went to college at UCSD, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Communication. I played on the Women's Basketball team, and was Team Captain my senior year. After college, I lived in Dublin, Ireland for a short while, and LOVED it!! Oh, and I am newly vegetarian.
Charles C.
Hometown: Fargo
College: NDSU
Resides in: El Sobrante, CA
About Me:
I may be the only National Merit Scholar who fell asleep during the SAT. I gained 100 points when I took it again (after a good night's sleep). My degree is in English, and my first job out of college was as a teacher in the US Peace Corps in Namibia. Peace Corps is a great experience and I recommend it highly. I also learned how to do a great imitation of a goat. I've been living in the Bay area since 2000. I got married in 2005. We have a son who's three and a daughter who will be one in 2010. Oh, and I've started graduate school.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My dad was a teacher, and when I was a kid I always said that I'd never do that. What I didn't count on was that teaching is FUN! I'm really glad to be getting some classroom time again, and I like the fact that Revolution has respect for the students and the instructors.
John C.
Hometown: Sacramento, CA
College: UC Riverside and Stanford University
Resides in: Milpitas, CA
About Me:
If you asked me where I would be in ten years, ten years ago, I probably would have told you I would be working for a small software company creating cutting-edge technologies. That couldn't be further from where I am now. I graduated from UCR with a computer science degree and a music minor, and I worked for Boeing for a year. However, I knew that programming was not where my heart was. I left for Stanford University, earning a Masters degree in Math Education. I taught High School math for three years, and now I'm working on a music bachelor's, so that I can teach both choir AND math at the high school level. My other job is teaching younger kids how to program video games. And my other other job is running a choir.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love teaching! And it's Revolution Prep is an awesome place to teach! They actually ENCOURAGE creativity in the classroom. What a Revolutionary idea!
Elizabeth C.
Hometown: Santa Rosa
College: University of California Santa Cruz
Resides in: Santa Rosa, CA
About Me:
I have been in love with astronomy since I was 8 and wanted to be an astrophysicist since then. I hosted my own space camp for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school. I went to UC Santa Cruz to get my B.S. in Astrophysics after high school. I chose Santa Cruz for the astrophysics program and for the ocean.
At UCSC I joined Kappa Zeta sorority, a local community service based sorority. It was great to help out in the community and meet a ton of great girls and have fun with all sorts of new people. I am proud to say we were the dodgeball champs at Greek Week and hosted our own Cancer Walks to raise hundreds of dollars for the American Cancer Society.
I love the beach, surfing, kitties, hanging out with friends, playing and watching football (Packers all the way!), and going to shows to see my favorite punk rock bands.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I have always been interested in science and math and have made a habit of trying my hardest to inspire others to be interested too. I am thinking about going to grad school to possibly teach at a community college level and think Revolution Prep is a great way for me to get some teaching experience. I hope I can help make math easier for the kids that are having problems and for all of those that hate math.
Ian C.
Hometown: Benicia
College: UC San Diego
Resides in: Benicia, CA
About Me:
I like math and philosophy. I'm a big nerd, which is what you want for a teacher. I will gladly help you with your math homework.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My interests have always been academic. Teaching a class gives me an opportunity both to talk about things I find interesting and also to help students. It's interesting and useful at the same time.
Joshua C.
Hometown: San Rafael, Ca
College: Santa Clara University
Resides in: San Anselmo, CA
About Me:
I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I studied politics in college and supported myself by working in retail and IT computer support, while playing Varsity Lacrosse. I've spent the last year working for a political campaign, because who really needs sleep or a lot of money.
I am a HUGE movie fan. I go crazy for puzzles (especially Sudoku!), but you could just as easily find me cooking up very addictive spicy dishes (and with such names as spicy-spicy mush-mush who could go wrong?).
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love to learn. Some time in my life, I realized many people around me didn't share my passion for learning. This realization inspired me to teach and tutor others. Teaching became sharing my love of learning with others, to inspire them with the same passion and enjoyment that I felt.
Courtenay C.
Hometown: Saratoga, CA
College: Duke University
Resides in: San Jose, CA
About Me:
I grew up on a hillside overlooking the Bay Area, and on foggy days I'd look out the window and see naught but a sea of white below me. I was lucky to have this kind of perspective. When it came time for me to go off to college, adventure was on my mind, and so I moved to Durham, North Carolina (intrepid, indeed!). Amongst the pine and kudzoo I studied whatever interested me, which was a lot of things, and came out of it with a degree in Psychology. While I love analyzing people and pondering human nature, the practical application of psychology is not for me, so since then I've been thinking way too much about what to do with my life. I just got back from living in Tokyo for a year, where I developed a penchant for pickled plums and simmered seaweed. Oh, did I mention that I like to travel? My favorite places on this earth so far include the Western half of the United States, Mexico, Thailand, and Australia (clearly, my heart belongs to the Ring of Fire). The next locales on my list are Iceland and Peru. Next year I plan to attend grad school to study integrative philosophy, mostly for the noble purpose of amusing myself, but also because I'm not complete without educational debt by my side. My interests, generally: slow food, knitting and sewing (obsessively), interesting geological formations, mindbody, dry wit, (parentheses), and a million other things. In my next life I'd like to be a hawk, because soaring through the sky sounds nice.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
As some are fond of saying, "Stop complaining; start a revolution!". Well, that applies to the SAT, too. While this lame excuse for a test used to be pretty hard, now its ridiculously hard, and I'd like to help you help yourselves. Let's fight the big bad meanies who made this test together! I thank my lucky stars that I found a socially responsible company that believes in equal opportunities for success. Strike one against the machine! Teaching and tutoring have been my profession of choice for the past few years, so I am truly in my element here at Revolution. As a wise 20-something, I want to pass on my knowledge and guidance to the next generation. And so, I offer myself, heart and mind, to you.
Ria D.
Hometown: Davis, Ca
College: U.C. Davis
Resides in: Sacramento, CA
About Me:
I've lived in Northern California all my life. I grew up in the Bay Area, moved to Sacramento before Junior High, and even went to school at UC Davis. I graduated with a major in Animal Biology (I've always loved animals) and a minor in Philosophy ( I also love a good debate), but my current career pertains to neither. Since my sophomore year of college when I discovered Lindy Hop, I've spent nearly all of my time performing, competing, teaching, and social dancing. Currently I teach at local, national, and international swing dance workshops, which has allowed me to travel to places like Korea, Australia,Sweden, France and Germany. In my free time I also enjoy making jewelry and perfumes, glassblowing, and reviewing old SAT math problems :)
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Besides the idea of finally making good use of my pricey college education, I'm here because I love teaching. Teaching dance allows me to break down complex moves and fundamentals so that they can become accessible to the average person, and I want to do the same for the SAT. Once you see beyond all the smoke and mirrors, the SAT becomes far less intimidating. I love that Revolution prep tries to bring this perspective to everyone with endless scholarships, motivated teachers and a solid strategy for success.
Emil D.
Hometown: Redwood City, CA
College: Brown University (BA) UC Irvine (MBA)
Resides in: Atherton, CA
About Me:
I'm a Bay Area native who attended college out east and came back afterwards. I spend a lot of time serving as a public address announcer for collegiate sports teams, having handled home games at Stanford, Santa Clara, Cal Poly, LMU, UC Irvine, and the University of San Diego over the last several years. Additionally, I enjoy cooking, cycling, and music in my spare time.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
In many challenges, I find that it's not the people with the huge knowledge bases that succeed as much as it is those who find new and creative solutions and methods to break down those challenges. The SAT is one of those challenges, and I think the people at Revolution Prep have found a refreshing, original way of attacking the test that yields results to those who get on the bus. So whaddya say? You in?
Michelle E.
Hometown: Nashville, TN
College: The University of Memphis (GO TIGERS GO!)
Resides in: Healdsburg, CA
About Me:
I'm a transplant to the Bay Area from south of the Mason-Dixon Line. There, I learned to love country music, biscuits n' gravy, and humidity. Even though California has none of those things, it is obviously cooler.
I am a full-time graduate student. I love to cook. I like to make homemade T-shirts. I check my email obessively, and I may or may not enjoy awesomely bad reality tv shows.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My friends were awfully tired of me teaching algebra and critical reading at social gatherings. The folks at Revolution like that I talk about math and essays in my spare time; they like it so much that they pay me for it!
Gabriel E.
Hometown: San Francisco
College: U.C. Berkeley
Resides in: Oakland, CA
About Me:
I studied history and music in college, and after a few years in the working world following graduation, I decided to change routes and enter the med school track, going back to school to finish all the science prerequisites. I really like working with people, a big part of my desire to be a doctor one day. Maybe out of necessity given my career track, I like standardized testing, and while I don't expect anyone to get warm fuzzy feelings about it like I do, I do hope to make the experience as pain-free as possible.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution Prep is a fantastic company to work for. I've really enjoyed the people I've worked with, from fellow teachers to the founders of the company. I've dealt with other companies as a student (most recently with Kaplan for their MCAT course), and Revolution is one of the friendliest, most dynamic places to be a part of.
Terra E.
Hometown: Northern California
College: UC Santa Cruz - BA, UC San Diego - PhD
Resides in: Watsonville, CA
About Me:
I live between Santa Cruz and Monterey, surrounded by strawberry fields. I have two dogs that like to sleep most of the day and occasionally chase cats, squirrels, and lizards. I like to surf, although I'm not very good. I also love to snowboard, which I'm better at. If you're reading this, you'll probably be in my class; I can't wait to meet you. Soon you will be a master of the SAT!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Sure, it's a cliche, but young people do have the power to change the world. I'm inspired by the process of teaching, and learning from, such powerful people.
Stephanie E.
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
College: San Francisco State University
Resides in: San Francisco, CA
About Me:
After growing tired of 110 degree summers in the valley, I journeyed north and discovered that I absolutely love it up here in the Bay Area. I'm a student at San Francisco State where I'm pursuing my degree in Anthropology and Communication Studies. I'm a policy debater for the SFSU Forensics team, which means I get to travel around the country for free and argue with just about everybody I meet. Can you believe they actually reward me for doing this? In my free time (do I have that?), I'm in a band where I aimlessly bang on these black and white key things and they make noise!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love to talk...pretty much about everything and anything, but especially about things that I've learned throughout my education. All my life, my parents, friends, school teachers, and that crazy guy who hangs out on my corner, have told me to shut up and stop being such a know it all. Distressed, I sought out solace and happened upon Revolution Prep. They told me that I did not, in fact, have to shut up. Instead, I could talk all I wanted to about all things SAT. Revolution Prep helped me realize two things. The first is that I actually *don't* know everything, but I can always keep learning more. The second is that *you* can learn more than enough to master the SAT, one of the biggest obstacles between you and four years of the most satisfying and fun experiences you can could ever have...college!

Thumbs up: playing basketball, irony, long walks on the beach.
Thumbs down: smokers, red states, parallelism.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
There are only a few places in this world where people who obsess over grammatical constructions and right triangles can succeed. Luckily Revolution Prep is one such place.
Rae F.
Hometown: Los Angeles
College: Loyola Marymount (BA), SFSU (MA)
Resides in: San Francisco, CA
About Me:
I am 27 and a recent graduate from the San Francisco State University MA program for poetry. I also received a reading certificate from the revolutionary Integrated Reading and Writing program. I write and I read often so to answer your question, yes, I am a literature nerd. I have a B.A. in English from Loyola Marymount University. I also worked for Professional Tutors of America for approx. 2 years teaching reading, writing and math. I am the oldest of two, having 1 younger brother who is currently 25. In my free time (which is not spent dorking out with my favorite authors) I dance, paint, write, go to concerts and generally run amuck in the streets. My favorite color is yellow and every time I see it, it makes me smile. There is something so wonderfully ridiculous about a yellow car. What else? I spent a semester in Barcelona, Spain and I fell in love with that city. I am addicted to travel so I am open to any amazing cities that you want to recommend. I plan on applying for a Fulbright scholarship to teach in Argentina for a year. Anything to see the world and soak up new experiences, right? I am outgoing, chatty and love a good joke. I think that about covers it. If you have questions, I have answers.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Hi, my name is Rae Freudenberger and I am an adrenalin-aholic. I have been sky diving, bungee jumping, hang gliding and even white water rafting! By virtue of all of those amazing experiences I found one irrefutable truth: nothing gives me the rush that I crave quite like the SAT. The second that I walked out of that test, I was hooked. Nothing fills your body with a sense of the fragility and ephemeral nature of life like having to swallow your stomach back down from up in your throat and that "I am almost verging on wetting my pants" brand of fear. I sought after that adrenaline high in every corner of the globe. I mean, let's face facts. Sky diving is like 50 seconds of free fall followed by a leisurely float to the ground. The SAT is over 3 hours of prime adrenaline pumping panic. Drawing this painful conclusion left me little choice in life. I spent the next years of my life hunting the SAT like wounded prey. I took it more times that I can recall. They all bleed together in a toxic dream of sheer wonder and liveliness. After spending all of the money that I had to my name taking the SAT, I fell into a slump. I couldn't get my fix. I started stalking practice exams just to get a taste of the thrill and to live vicariously through the students. Cue Revolution Prep. I stumbled onto a practice testing site for Rev Prep and found the assigned classroom. I sat outside pressing my face to the glass in longing. The proctor noticed me there. After the exam he approached me, and my broken heart (and empty wallet) appealed to his empathy. He gave me a number to call, a number that changed my life: 1-877-REV-PREP. The rest, as they say, is history.

Hometown: San Jose, CA
College: UCLA
Resides in: San Jose, CA
About Me:
I have always prided myself on being a native San Josian, but after 18 years of Golf Land, Oakridge bowling, and Great America, I decided to move south to enjoy Castle Park (mini golf), Lucky Strike Lanes (bowling), and Six Flags. While persuing these activities, I managed to attend AND gradutate from college at UCLA.
Currently, I am working towards becoming a high school teacher while mastering Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, and Taiko Drum Master.
If you ever see me in San Jose, don't be surprised if I'm in the middle of screaming an awful Arnold Schwarzenegger one-liner. These may include, but are not limited to:
"IT'S NOT A TUUUUMOR!"
"HE'LL LIVE."
"RUBBER BABY BUGGY BUMPERS!"
(note: capitalized for intensity)
Do not be afraid. I am (mostly) harmless.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution because:
1. Although the SAT is a pain, it really doesn't have to be! :D
2. I LOVE teaching!
3. I love that Revolution offers affordable classes to everyone!
Brendan G.
Hometown: San Mateo, CA
College: University of California, Santa Barbara
Resides in: San Francisco, CA
About Me:
I'm a witty guy, that's what people keep telling me. I love jokes, puns, unexpected movie references, and keeping people on their toes. I live in San Francisco, in one of the frequently sunny parts. Yes, they exist.
I live, breathe, and sometimes eat music. I was born with a harmonica in my left hand and a tuba in my right. Naturally, I fell off the right side of the delivery table. Since then, I've tried to limit myself to holding one musical instrument at a time (I sing and play guitar, piano, mandolin, banjo, bass guitar, drums, lute and a few others).
And yet somewhere in all that music-making I found time to study political science at UC Santa Barbara. We just had an election-year, so I'm enthralled by all that has been going on lately.
Oh! Back to the music. You can check out my debut album on iTunes by searching my name there. I also perform my music all over the Bay Area, join one of my classes and I'll tell you all about it!
What else... I've done my share of acting, singing and dancing for theatre, and I'm a big-time sports nut. In other words, I can talk to you about whatever you want. I drive a Toyota, and I have a soft spot in my heart for old Toyota trucks where on the back all the letters have been scratched off except "YO". All this and more is just a call to Revolution away!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
These sorts of tests have a reputation for being boring, but preparing for them doesn't have to be! I want you to get to have the great college and life experiences that I've had, and something like the SAT shouldn't stand in your way. That's where I come in!
And hey, this way I get to be part of a revolution! What's not to like?
Cody G.
Hometown: San Jose, CA
College: University of Southern California
Resides in: San Jose, CA
About Me:
Hi! My name is Cody, and I just finished my degree this past May at the University of Southern California. First generation USC Trojan, baby! I received my degree in business administration with a split emphasis in Management and Organizational Relations and Entrepreneurship. I'm a sports junkie - love the A's, 9ers, Sharks, Warriors and my USC Trojans. I've got great stories about football games so don't be afraid to ask. Also love indie rock and the concert scene.
I'm originally from San Jose, and I'm so stoked to be home! The past few years in LA were a complete blast, but I'm ready to come back and take the Bay Area by storm.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
It's a company with a social conscience - I like the fact that the company is willing to financially support anyone who cannot afford the cost of the classes. I also like helping students achieve their dreams, helping them get into the schools they want to go to. After all, someone helped me get to USC.

About Me:
I was born and raised in San Jose and went to Leland High School, where I did ASB, Speech And Debate, Mock Trial, and Theater. I have 3 brothers who all went to Berkeley, but I went to Stanford. Also during college, I met my wonderful girlfriend Amanda who teaches preschool now. I'm currently a working actor in San Francisco and I'll be starting Law School at Berkeley next September.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I appreciate that the mission of Revolution Prep is rooted in social justice. I'm happy to be a part of a program that provides ALL students the skills to get into a great college. Also, Revolution encourages me to bring my own unique style and energy to most effectively get across the material.

Hometown: Olympia, WA
College: Stanford
Resides in: Palo Alto, CA
About Me:
Growing up in Olympia, WA, I learned excellent values, such as the fact that it is perfectly fashionable to wear socks with sandals. In high school, I maintained a 4.0 GPA while simultaneously forming a punk band (the Canadian Secret Police), and creating my own board game company. At Stanford, I honed my fascination for medieval weaponry by majoring in history, where I specialized in the Middle Ages (don't call them the dark ages). I also became a sound technician, allowing bands to rock out hard. After college, I formed my own tabletop roleplaying game company, Countess Games, and additionally enjoy torturing my miniature weiner dog, Backup (Veronica Mars reference).
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I have a strong aptitude and passion for academics, which combined with my goofy side makes me an engaging and effective instructor. I gain immense satisfaction from helping my students realize their dreams.

I was born in Ojai, CA, and escaped as soon as I could. I changed my name, got healthy, exercised, and became a new person at college. I received my BA from the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara in their Literature emphasis. It's an honors college, but it was worth all of the hard work. Since then, I have been accepted to several MFA programs for writing Creative Non-Fiction, and have decided to do a low residency program at Antioch Los Angeles. I learn at every opportunity, and teach at the drop of a hat. I've taught every grade from pre-school to highschool, except sixth. It just never came up.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because they pay attention to teachers and recognize that we who stand in front of the classroom have more to do with the success of students than a suit who sits in a smokey room. With the curriculum they have provided and the freedom they offer, there is no end to what a good educator can help his students achieve.

About Me:
I majored originally in Literature at the College of Creative Studies, an honors college within the University of California, Santa Barbara. The College expected its students to do graduate level work and participate in intense round-table discussions in their chosen field of study. After graduating from CCS, I was accepted into the competitive 5th year Graduate program in Theater Arts at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Currently I work in what is called the Literary Division of theater - Directing is essentially Literary interpretation of texts. I have worked previously as a director, assistant director, choreographer, and playwright. I have also founded two production companies: Shrunken Head Productions, a quarterly musical theater group in Santa Barbara, CA, and Red Egg Theater in Santa Cruz, CA. Red Egg Theater is an umbrella name for a project attempting to create stronger ties between UCSC theater arts, Cabrillo students and the wider theater community in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The hope is that we can create opportunities for students to add professional credits to their resume, while learning and growing out in the wider world.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
It all started with poetry. A middle school English teacher handed me King Lear and I was immediately smitten. I wanted to know what that gorgeous, lyrical language was saying, and the more I read -> the more I understood -> the more I was hooked on learning!
I teach SAT Prep so that my students can reach their college admission goals and develop the same love for learning that I found. I believe that every student has that right, no matter their upbringing or income level, and Revolution Prep more than any other SAT Prep company supports that belief.

About Me:
Here are the key facts about me: I'm a lifelong Northern Californian. I love to read (philosophy, science fiction, "classics", biographies, historical fiction ... anything goes really). I like tossing a frisbee around or biking down to the river. In college I became addicted to Mario Kart 64, Text Twist, and extreme timed chess. And finally, my favorite food is thai or sushi, but I'm not sure which!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
The easiest way to improve your chances of getting into the college of your dreams is to improve your SAT score. I teach at Revolution Prep to help students get into the school they want.

About Me:
Born and raised right near the beach in San Diego, I then spent some time at UC Davis that included playing water polo, figuring out the system, and large amounts of socializing and studying. Now I'm living in San Francisco, so I think that makes me a Cali Connoisseur. I just recently graduated and traveled through South America, so now I'm taking some time to figure out what I may want to do in the future. I enjoy disagreeing with music snobs, rewinding movie jokes until they're played out, and llamas. I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells like rich mahogany...
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I like Revolution because of their fun and innovative approach to teaching the SAT. It's an important test that requires preparation but it doesn't always have to be mind numbing and repetitive. Revolution also takes a fresh approach that focuses more on students learning and progressing than teachers lecturing a class. Lastly, now I can officially say I've been part of a revolution...that'll be cool to say in 30 years.

About Me:
I'm an eccentric and spontaneous individual, given to speaking with unnecessary metaphors and obscure references. Some of my favorite things in life are penguins, Cal football, long drives, and sweet views. One time I took a quiz on What Pokemon Are You? and got Mewtwo: master of everything. I thought that this was kind of a big deal. In my spare time, I grew up in San Jose and Palo Alto before heading off to college at Berkeley, where I just graduated in May 2009 with a degree in molecular and cell biology. While at Berkeley, I did human genetics research at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute and coordinated the People's Test Prep Service, a student-run SAT prep group that targeted low-income youth in the East Bay. I'm excited to now be at Revolution, and continue the work of preparing students for the SAT and for college.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Here at Revolution, they're about helping the STUDENTS get into college! Unlike the other big-name test prep companies (which will go unnamed), Revolution is committed, above all, to expanding access to SAT prep services and improving college access. That's why I work at Revolution Prep and why the folks I've met at Revolution are some of the brightest and coolest people I know

About Me:
Hello and Welcome! Rather than put you through the pain of reading a page of objective third-person narrative, stereotypical humor, and hyperbole I will give it to you straight, like a Supercuts haircut in the mid 90s.
I am a Cal Poly alumnus, where I studied in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. There I learned one vital lesson: problems do not exist, but time-sensitive opportunities for creativity do. I am happy if I can be creative every day. Simple things in life such as nature, good conversation, and reading are all lottery tickets for creativity. I tell my students to constantly be on the search for what excites them, to be open, to express themselves. I love expression. I do not love neutrality. Expression is akin to expresso – the essense of coffee. Being an adult is frightening. I have been a professional student and world traveler for the last 23 years and now I am faced with the task of finding a career. To quell my anxiety I have been surrounding myself with small yellow post-its with Confucius quotes, such as, “Choose a job you love and you never have to work a day of your life.” So far that seems to help.
When I am not partaking in well-directed mental exercise or training to be a professional smile-maker, I enjoy avant-garde architecture, high fives, old bicycles, funk music, Sonoma County wines, slow food, and a well-placed punch line.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I am an eternal, hopelessly perpetual student. Teaching allows me to remain in the field of education, which is the only place I want to be.

About Me:
I was born and raised in Daly City, California. Love it, except for the fog. I like to help people, fix computers, watch movies and eat. Learning new things and teaching are fun too. I seem to have that kind of face that people come up to me and ask for help(has happened several times at CompUSA and Office Depot, but also in other random places that I was visiting for the first time, like Portland, Oregon).
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I have always loved learning and loved helping others. Tutoring and teaching have been things I have done since I was in elementary school. I love teaching for Revolution Prep because for us, it's all about the student. Everything is geared toward making sure our students build the confidence they need and learn the strategies that will improve their SAT scores. Everyone believes in our mission, from Ramit and Jake all the way down. Energy, enthusiasm and dedication to our students...a truly revolutionary approach to SAT Prep.

Why I teach at Revolution Prep:

About Me:
I was raised in San Jose. In high school, I was on the track team, basketball team, and also ran cross country my senior year. My favorite HS courses were Geometry and Spanish II, and the easiest courses for me were AP US Government and Spanish I.
I do still understand a little Spanish, and also know some words and phrases in Japanese.
In college, I switched majors once, from Computer Science to Math, and added Safeway to Fry's Electronics on my list of favorite stores. I didn't attend any rallies or protests at Cal, since I either had class or track practice at those times.
I've worked with an internet start up, an organic rice company, and have a Vehicle Salespersons License. Oh yeah, and I'm the master of all things related to the world of standardized testing!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Most high school students view the SAT as straightforward exam; they think it measures their intelligence.
This is not the case.
The SAT is really more like an interview: No two are the same, but you can still be fully prepared.
After four years of working to become qualified applicants, every student deserves the chance to do well on the interview! Their resumes - grades, clubs, sports, applications, and personal statements - are only part of what gets them the job.

About Me:
The most important fact about me is that I am an all-around dork. Some people are math dorks, some are history dorks, some are computer dorks, but I never had the attention span necessary to specialize that way. I am equally obsessed with reading, mathematics, cooking, soccer, photography, really bad 90's music and the random facts one comes across in the everyday act of living. I will read the backs of cereal boxes, toothpaste containers, whatever is nearby if I don't have a book handy (which I usually do). I get really excited about figuring out what's mathematically interesting about upcoming birthdays (for ex: 27 is the last time you are X^X in your life.) I can also make a mean flourless chocolate torte. I really love sharing knowledge with people and love it when they give back to me the things they know, which is just one of the many reasons I love teaching. I have taught in schools and as a tutor since I graduated college (with a brief mid-career stopover for a masters degree from UPenn) and I loved it!
I have lived in six different states, two different countries, speak three languages and attended 8 different schools before I even got to college (my Dad's a government scientist) so I have a serious traveling bug. I recently moved across the country to the Bay Area and am looking forward to continuing my dorkish pursuits and picking up a whole bunch more.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love that Revolution Prep really cares about its students and focuses on college, not just kicking the SAT's butt (though obviously we're all about that as well). The curriculum helps students get past all the tricks and other craziness the SAT throws at them and gives them a chance to show what they know. I think every student deserves to go to the college that will fit them best and if I can be a part of helping people get past one of the barriers to their success, then I'm happy.

I am perpetually curious, always learning, teaching and exploring. I taught English and college prep classes at a private school in Colorado and a public charter in Oakland. I eat at a new restaurant every month and always order something I've never had before.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because I believe in helping people who want to go to college get to college. After teaching for over 7 years I know that the SAT is a hoop many people struggle with. Revolution Prep is a powerful and effective approach to standardized testing. I teach here because I love being part of a solution that helps high school students succeed and get to the schools of their dreams!

I'm a teacher, a student, a musician, a swimmer, a runner, a programmer, and at least several dozen other things. I sing with a barbershop quartet and other vocal groups. I practice t'ai chi. I'm fluent in Spanish, and easily amused.
I finished my BA in Spanish and computer science at Indiana in 2000, but I studied clarinet there as well. Working for the university, I developed an award-winning payroll, scheduling, and time clock system now in use by IU's student computing lab consultants. I loved Bloomington.
Now that I'm in the Bay Area, though, I love it here, too. I teach, and have more fun at it than I have with any other job.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
To pass on the knowledge and experience my own teachers have given me, and to help open up opportunities for my students. I want my students to go to schools that challenge their outlook on life and let their individual talents, backgrounds, and values find expression.
Also, teaching is fun!

I graduated from Stanford with a degree in English and a minor in history, and since then I've been doing marketing for a start-up (how very Bay Area). I enjoy travel, musicals, 19th century British lit, Microsoft Excel, and intersections of these interests (ask to see my spreadsheets of all the books I've read, places I've traveled, etc.) My favorite U.S. president is Chester A. Arthur and my favorite foods are artichokes and Pillsbury Funfetti cake.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I took the SAT for the first time in seventh grade. Yep, you read that right. I was always fascinated with the SAT and knew I was going to rock it when it counted for real. Plus, I knew that I had to beat this kid named Jonathan who bragged to everyone who would listen about his PSAT scores. But anyway, I even sort of had fun with the SAT--especially the now-dead analogies section. I decided that becoming an SAT tutor with Revolution Prep would be a great way to take me back to show kids that the SAT isn't scary and can even be a little bit fun. Everyone has the tools to get an awesome score, it's just a matter of knowing how to use them.

About Me:
I love drawing, dancing, exercising, exploring, reading, analyzing metaphors, learning about memory and decision-making, and teaching. I tend to go all out in everything I do and make the most out of every minute. I never drive without a book-on-tape. Some of my reads are: the Song of the Bird, the Wind-up Bird Chronicle, and the Black Swan. None of them are about birds. I love house music and house dance. Recently, I've also started practicing yoga. In high school, aside from classwork, sports, and dance, I had a blast with Key Club. At UC Berkeley, I majored in Cognitive Science, but also took a lot of math and art practice courses. I taught SAT classes as part of my Education Minor. I was also a Cog Sci Peer Advisor and a Hip Hop Dancer and Development Chair for the Movement Dance Group. In the past few years I've lived in Chiang Mai, was part of a cutting edge start-up, and have jumped out of an airplane... twice. I've also taught a wide range of classes and have loved every moment of that experience.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love making a positive impact on young lives and teaching these courses gives me an opportunity to do so. Revolution Prep allows me to work with students in both a group setting and individually, giving me a chance to reach more students with different learning styles. In addition to amazing fellow teachers and staff and the well-designed infrastructure and curriculum, there's a genuine care about the students we serve, and that is my ultimate reason.

I love riding my bike around sunny San Jose, cooking delicious meals, hanging out with my dog, learning new things and discovering interesting works of art & architecture!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe that the SAT should not be an obstacle for any student's college admissions process. This test is entirely formulaic, so I want to help reveal the formula for students so they can conquer it. College was an incredible experience for me, and I want to help students get in to the school of their choice. I also have a number of years of teaching experience working with high school students, and really enjoy working with them!

Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Life is all about opportunity. Choose one and see where it takes you. It is my great belief that access to knowledge can help you soar. I worked with the new student orientation program at Berkeley, working especially on the experience of transfer students. I am currently applying to PhD programs to study the history of the American West. I play a little bit of guitar, banjo, trumpet, mandolin, harmonium and a few others. I recommend against starting conversations with me about California, old Blues and Folk music, western water rights, or the benefits of writing with a typewriter, unless of course you've got quite a bit of time to kill.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe that everyone stands to benefit from a great education, intellectually, personally and career-wise. I also believe that our society can't help but be that much richer on account of each student. After college, I wandered the world in search of further enlightenment. I wanted to experience new cultures and different ways of thinking. I searched far and wide for the great wise men and women of the world. All in the quest for the answer to an important question: How does one overcome the challenge of the SAT?
I now return to the civilized world, armed with the information, strategies, and tricks one needs to conquer the SAT. It is my mission in life to pass these secrets on to young students seeking to improve their lot in life and to get out of their parents' homes.
I have been teaching and tutoring for the last fifteen years. I have extensive experience teaching students of special needs. I majored in English and Literature and I am a father (boy age 7, girl age 4) and husband. In what little spare time I have, I enjoy sports, the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:

A recent transplant to San Francisco, I enjoy experiencing everything the bay area has to offer. When not teaching or reading, I like to spend my time on a climbing wall, hiking, tide-pooling, hanging in the park, cooking vegetarian feasts, hearing live music at a great SF venue or dancing the night away with friends.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
The goal of education is an idealistic one: to improve the world through improving the minds of those who live in it. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to pursue an education. For their own enrichment and, hopefully, the benefit of all. Many who want a higher education, however, are intimidated by standardized tests, feel unprepared or are hindered by financial need.
Rocking the SAT's or ACT's is one small but critical step in achieving your academic goals (getting into that dream school, winning that scholarship). Standardized test-taking is a skill that can be taught and learned. I love to teach, so why not teach the thing that helps open doors and gives students more freedom about where to continue their own education? And, c'mon, who doesn't want to add a few hundred points to that score??

I have the id of a musician, the ego of a linguist, and the superego of an activist. I have two bachelor's degrees, one in music, and another combined degree in linguistics and psychology. I have played violin since I was nine years old and aspired to be a professional violinist until my second year in college, when I discovered that I had a passion for human rights issues, both domestically and internationally. I now attend a socially responsible school in San Francisco, where I'm pursuing a degree in Cultural Anthropology from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
In my free time (what little of it there is!) I enjoy being active, going to see movies, EATING, and reading. I'm always down for a good time with friends and family and I think that the pun is the highest form of humor.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution because in my undergrad experience, I worked with a lot of kids in the Los Angeles School District who didn't have all the opportunities I had growing up. I understand that there's a need for all students to gain a competitive edge when it comes to applying to colleges. Without organizations like Revolution Prep, there would be a too many kids that would be without the means to get themselves prepared for the new SAT.
Also, if I ever decide to reapply for undergrad at some point in the future, I will have some killer SAT scores because i will essentially have taken part in multiple SAT prep classes. Ha-ha!

I'm currently a senior at Berkeley majoring in Molecular and Cellular biology with an emphasis in infectious diseases. Yeah, it's a mouthful. I am pre-med and currently in the process of applying to med schools.
I was born in China and moved to Arizona when I was 4. Then I spent a couple years in Arizona and a couple years in Riverside and I have been living in different cities in the Bay Area since. Growing up I played piano and flute. In high school I was part of swim team, diving team, winterguard, and marching band.
Currently my extracurricular passion is ballroom and latin dancing.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe that a big part of doing well on standardized tests is figuring out what they are asking, seeing through all the tricks and keeping stress under control.
When I was taking the SATs I remember missing lots of easy questions because I misread the problem or because I psyched myself out. I think that Revolution Prep really helps to address the problems that most students have, and Revolution Prep teaches skills that help students after the SATs. The techniques in Rev Prep I use everyday in my classes and I really wish I had know them when I was taking the SATs because I believe they would have helped me to elevate my scores into that top percentile.

I like good books, bad mix tapes, candy (usually of the chewy and fruity variety), fake accents, and holistic health. I spent the past four years at UC Santa Cruz studying biology, living in the science library (my home away from home), and dancing whenever I got the chance. My studies at UCSC made me realize that ecological research is not what I am passionate about (although, I very much enjoyed and valued the experiences that I had), and am now planning on going into the medical field. In my spare time, I read, I dance, and I have a social life. I travel whenever I get the chance. I have been to language schools in Mexico and Guatemala. Although my Spanish used to be top notch, I am a bit out of practice. When I'm not teaching or tutoring for Revolution Prep I work as a waitress, and a companion for developmentally disabled adults. I also volunteer in the ER. I am currently deciding what I want to be when I grow up, which really just means playing in Santa Cruz. I love teaching, and if you're in my class, I might even bake you cookies.

I grew up in the wild woods of northern California and created my own language and a numbering system at a young age. When I finally finished them and built an automobile, I rolled out of the forest only to discover that the rest of the California natives had already developed their OWN language and math! ...and what's more? They were identical to my own! You can imagine my mixed feelings of convenience and disappointment at this discovery. Needless to say, I assimilated quickly, and then went on to study physics and more at UC Berkeley.
Since then, I've developed a love for photography and exploring the world, as well as a fondness for teaching.
How does all of this relate to you? Well, photography doesn't exactly... but exploring can be done just as well across oceans as through the pages of SAT prep materials, right?
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love teaching and explaining things, be them the nuances of quantum physics, or the importance of noun-verb agreement, or even the lesson learned when you travel with a camera but no lens caps (or lens caps but no camera!).
The SAT is an adventure, and just like nobody should leave home without an extra pair of underwear, so should nobody take the SAT without an extra pair of test-taking strategies! SAT scores are important, and preparing for the test can make a huge difference. I want you to do well on the test, AND the test is easy to beat, so it's a no-brainer that I'll do everything I can to get you ready!

About Me:
I enjoy cooking, roller skating, photography, armchair philosophy, traveling, and dancing. I'm also a novelist, so I spend much of my time in quiet observation of human behavior.
I grew up in New York, but moved to the west coast to study psychology at Stanford. I'm looking forward to exploring some more California cities, though, since I'm an urban girl at heart.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep to help make the SAT a platform for success, rather than a bar to admission. After spending over a decade in school, no student should feel as though their score on one exam will determine their academic future. Revolution Prep helps to ensure that students can take the SAT-based part of their future into their own hands.

About Me:
I was born in Europe and have lived all over the US. Most recently I attended High School and College in Michigan. I graduated from the University of Michigan, with degrees in Political Science and History. After graduation, I moved to California and have been working in Environmental Policy ever since. I enjoy working with young people in my community and Revolution Prep gives me an opportunity to help students find the tips and secrets to do well on the SAT and successfully move on to College. In my free time, I enjoy watching and playing sports, and try to spend as much time as possible hiking and camping outdoors.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution Prep because it offers scholarships and other incentives to ensure that it is reaching those students that otherwise would not have access to this kind of college preparation. I also believe in the unique teaching model that seeks to maximize each student's potential on standardized tests.

About Me:
I'm working on a PhD in Astrophysics at U.C. Santa Cruz. (Black holes are the coolest things ever!)
I went to college at MIT, where I studied physics, dabbled in literature, and learned how to knit items of questionable aesthetic value.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I teach for Revolution for the same reason that I buy groceries at the farmer's market: it's something I'm going to do anyway, so it makes sense to do it with people who aren't evil. Also, it's fun!

About Me:
I spent four amazing years at Princeton University studying Sociology, Music, and Religion, among other things. Princeton is one of the most beautiful places! There is such a rich history of learning and discovery. It wasn't hard to be creative in an environment like that. While at Princeton, I was able to take a number of research trips to Australia (hooray for research grants). My time there was phenomenal; Australia is truly like no other place in the world! But don't be fooled by all this talk of research and the Ivy League. :) I have the heart of an artist. I love music, art, films, photography, etc. I am a classically trained singer (although I prefer to sing less classically these days). I play the piano and guitar, and I have been writing songs since I was ten. I love taking pictures of flowers and landscapes, and I have even been in a few short films, commercials, and ad campaigns. All of that aside, I think that at the end of the day there is always something to learn, always room to grow, and always a way we can share our knowledge with others! That's why I have always loved tutoring!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
College is an incredible experience, on every level, and I think that all students should have the chance to go to the school of their choice! The SAT can give you that 'extra edge' you need to put the power of the "Yes" in your own hands (versus some guy in an admissions office). Revolution Prep has a program that will give you the tools you'll need to get that 'extra edge' on the SAT. Let's face it, who wouldn't want an extra "extra edge" when it comes to college applications?! :)
I love that Revolution Prep believes in every student and desires to see every student succeed. I am proud to be a part of the Revolution Prep team.

Hometown: Nutley, NJ

Resides in: San Francisco, CA
About Me:
In the fall of 2007 I took a cross-country road trip and moved from New Jersey to California where I started working with youngsters again teaching with Revolution Prep and also coaching in a youth lacrosse league. After nailing my Swarthmore College degree in Economics to the wall back in 2003, I went on to work for the now infamous investment bank of Lehman Brothers until I became westward bound. Oh and I'm a triplet with two sisters, figured I'd throw that in somewhere. Then theres my life mistress, stand-up comedy, which Ive been writing and performing for over three years now. There are things about that twisted silly ride on a microphone I rather like, and fun and challenging are definitely a few of them.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Because the job combines two essential parts of life: fun and challenge. Students can agree the SAT is challenging, but fun is probably not on your SAT word association list and it should be. Sometimes its the only way to get through it and beat the thing at its own game, a lesson I learned at Revolution Prep.

About Me:
I just graduated in 2008 from Stanford, with a major in Human Biology, and spent the fall learning Spanish and volunteering in Guatemala. I encourage everyone to study abroad as much as possible! I hope to go to medical school down the line, but I am currently slogging through prereq chemistry and physics classes to get there...
I'm originally from Pasadena, and although I fell in love with the Bay Area, the LA sunshine brought me back. In my free time I love playing sand volleyball, going to concerts, backpacking, rock climbing, and traveling.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
In high school I was fortunate enough to have two awesome SAT tutors who helped me raise my score by more than 250 points. I appreciate the value of SAT prep, and want to help high school students achieve their goals of rocking the SAT. The people are great, the curriculum is (relatively) fun, and the reward of seeings students improve is even better!

About Me:
I was born in San Francisco but I've lived all over the Bay Area, as well as London, Chicago, and Hiroshima. I attended the University of Chicago for four years, where I learned to love and loathe winter with equal passion. Some of my favorite things to do include playing disc golf, hiking, and eating strange and delicious street food when I travel. I have been blessed with the opportunity to study at some of the world's best universities, and I have a zest for teaching. In my past two years of graduate school I've had the privilege to teach college students about superheros, Alfred Hitchcock, and puzzle films like Memento!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe strongly that everybody should have the opportunity to go to college, and that mastering the SAT is the easiest means to improving one's application. Furthermore, I think of the SAT as a game -- one with high stakes, to be sure, but one that can be beaten and even fun (gasp!) to learn to beat. I like that here at Revolution we emphasize both of these ideals, providing access to the highest quality SAT prep for everybody, and making it fun in the process.

About Me:
I just graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a theater major focused on lighting design (Focused! Aha). Now I'm getting my ducks in a row (I like saying that).
The picture is of me participating in a study for NASA's human integration division. They covered me with electrodes and spent a week finding out if I play well with others. Science Says Yes.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
My other job is research-assisting this book about education, which talks a lot about how standardized tests are awful. I find this funny.
Anyway. I'm here because I've always liked talking about Strategy, and Language, and that sort of thing. It recently occurred to me that I might apply this to helping people annihilate standardized tests. The good fight.

About Me:
I love biking - more than with anything else, I'm happy if you put me on a tiny deer trail with a camelbak, a clif bar, and a bike. I chose instruction for a career, because I love the look of enlightenment when one of my students really gets something they've been struggling with. I like being able to give you the power to win at a game where somebody else is always setting the rules for you.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I like passing on knowledge. There's a lot about school that was easy for me, but there were a lot of skills that I learned from other people, without which it would've been much, much harder. I'm grateful to my friends and teachers for giving to me, and I'm just trying to give back. That's why I chose to teach for Revolution specifically - they try to give back as well.

About Me:
I graduated from St. Mary's College of CA in '02 and decided I wanted to be a Dentist at the end of senior year. I was a classics-based Liberal Arts major so this was a bit of an unorthodox career choice. To this end I've spent the last few years at SFSU knocking out my pre-requisites and am applying now for dental school. Revolution gives me the perfect chance to help people while still pursuing what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
There aren't many people who can honestly say that they enjoy their jobs and look forward to going to work. I think this job for me is as simple as that. I enjoy the opportunity to help people every day that I go to work, and even better I get paid to do it! I haven't found the catch to this yet, but then again I'm not looking hard either.
Vanessa S.
Hometown: San Jose, CA
College: Seattle University; Universidad Iberoamericana
Resides in: Campbell, CA
About Me:
I lived in the same little house in San Jose (along with my parents, brother, and a veritable menagerie of pets) my whole life up until college, when I moved to Seattle to study social work at Seattle U. College was full of new and exciting experiences for me: I studied abroad in Mexico and Belize, had my first apartment, had the chance to volunteer for nonprofits ranging from homeless shelters to green property developers to community organizing groups, wrote my 50-something page undergraduate thesis, and even got to see Salman Rushdie and Tim Gunn at their book signings! I graduated magna cum laude in June 2008 with a Bachelor's in Social Work, a second major in Spanish, and a minor in nonprofit leadership. After graduation, I headed back home to the Bay Area. I had grown to love the Emerald City for its parks, public art, and cupcake-only bakeries, but nothing makes you appreciate the California sunshine like 8 straight months a year of overcast skies.
Now that I'm back home, I'm enjoying spending more time with my family while I prepare to apply for graduate school next year. I love to read, so much that I don't let myself buy a book unless I know I won't devour it in a single sitting, but I won't turn up my nose at a good, cheesy movie, either. I'm pretty crafty: I sew, knit, embroider, use power tools, and know my way around a fabric store or hardware store fairly well. I love impromptu travel, whether it's just a day trip to Carmel or jetting off to London on frequent flyer miles. In my perfect world, any and all of those activities are accompanied by a fantastic cup of coffee. My fatal flaw is an almost complete inability to be quietly idle.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I was always the kid who woke up super-early the first day of school because I couldn't wait to get into the classroom and start learning again. But standardized tests like the SAT drove me nuts. I always scored very well on the verbal and not so very well on the math; the questions confused me and I just wasn't very good at sitting still for so long at a stretch. I had no confidence in my ability to do math at all, and I felt like a failure for being so one-sided. Later on, in a college math class, I realized that Id had the ability to do the math all along, but had been thwarted by my nerves and my inability to understand the tricky wording of the questions. I teach at Revolution Prep because I know how it feels to sit down in front of that test and just feel completely overwhelmed by all those little bubbles, and I want to help students gain the skills and strategies that will make it a little less painful and a lot less stressful.

About Me:
I was born in San Francisco, CA, and raised in Hercules and Pinole. I attended Salesian High School in Richmond where I played basketball, football, and volleyball, making all league my senior year in the latter two sports. Afterwords I headed south to attend UC San Diego, where I majored in Mathematics, Economics, Boogie Boarding, and Pop and Locking. I enjoy reading Autobiographies and lifting weights, though not at the same time, and my favorite TV Shows are The Office, America's Best Dance Crew, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Revolution Prep gives me the opportunity to provide a very effective service that I didn't have the access to when I was a high school student preparing for the SAT's. I have been tutoring for many years to all different kinds of students, and I'm happy that I can give back to the Bay Area and help the future work their way to the college of their choice.

About Me:
I have taught or tutored for eleven years, in non-profits and privately, so I really like helping students learn. I am nerdy enough to see what's interesting in school but aware of what can be excruciatingly boring. I went to a college famed for being a grind, majored in Philosophy, and miraculously emerged with gainful employment.
I also went to art school (California College of the Arts) for an MFA, so I make art when I am not seeing movies, riding my bike, reading, watching football, or picking up waffles at my local farmers market.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Because I love the idea of helping students beat a test that inspires so much fear and stress. Because I need a productive place to put my energy. Because my friends don't want to hear me explain when to use the Pythagorean theorem.

About Me:
I graduated in 2003 in Psychology, and received my masters in Philosophy. I then transitioned to the business world and worked as a marketing consultant in Washington, DC, before returning to the Bay Area to pursue academic research. I am now in the process of applying to graduate programs in Psychology.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe in the importance of great teachers and great scores. My own application to undergrad depended in part on having high scores, and I know how important preparing and having help was to achieving those scores. I want to help make sure everyone has the opportunity to do the same.

About Me:
I'm a conscientious, determined, motivated, assiduous English teacher by day; easygoing, lazy, novel-reading, Grey's Anatomy-watching, lounge around in sweats gal by night. I love reading, I love writing, I love grammar, and I love math - really! I always have! And, oddly, I love taking tests. Taking a test makes me feel like I have a purpose, like my brain is working at a higher than normal capacity, like the results of my test will somehow have a significant impact on the world at large. Did I mention that I have a penchant for hyperbole?
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love Revolution Prep. I hate the idea of the SAT - a test craftily designed to trick, trap, and frustrate poor, unsuspecting college-bound students as they try to improve their chances for having successful futures. So, with my training as a Revolutionary and with my fellow Revolutionaries by my side, I storm the trenches and bring supplies in the form of strategies. The College Board may have won a battle or two, but we, you and I, will win the war.

About Me:
I grew up in Santa Cruz and loved spending a few hours at the beach after class in high school. After high school, I knew I wanted to go to school somewhere I could wear flip flops year round, so I stayed in California. I had a knack for math, but enjoyed art, so this beautiful combination of math and creativity lead me to engineering. I studied mechanical engineering so that I could design and build awesome products, especially sustainable ones! I loved Cal - the classes, the people, the city, the basketball games. Last summer, I did a summer internship in Hungary - it was amazing to live in a different country and now I have friends all over the world. Since I love to travel, this works out really well for me. Since graduating, I moved to San Francisco and am excited to have a new city to explore. I also like to eat (if you have a favorite restaurant, let me know so I can check it out!), as well as cook delicious meals. I like doing stuff with my hands - sewing, sketching and gesturing wildy when teaching.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
The SAT can be beat! Everyone should have a chance to go to college and not let a dumb test stand in their way. I want to help people do well on the SAT so that they can choose the college they want to attend.

Hometown: The World
College: University of Wyoming (BA), Johns Hopkins (MA)
Resides in: San Francisco, CA
About Me:
The 'home town' question is always a little tricky for me, because I'm never quite sure how to answer. Here's the short version of my life story: I was born in Denver, Colorado (making me an automatic Broncos fanatic by birthright!), but when I was 4 years old, my family moved to Papua New Guinea and then on to Australia. Those early experiences shaped my worldview, influenced my later decision to obtain two internationally-focused degrees, and gave me an incurable travel bug! I moved to the Easy Bay (San Ramon to be exact) for Jr. High and High School. After that I still couldn't sit still, so I went to college in Wyoming for a BA in International Development & studied abroad in London. After undergrad I lived in Germany, worked in Switzerland, then went for my MA in International Economics and Energy Policy - partly in Italy and partly in Washington, D.C. (Oh, and there was a 9 month stint in Austin, Texas somewhere in there...). I just moved back to Cali & reside in a cute apartment in the city (SF that is). I spend my time playing with my puppy, reading on the beach, baking, taking pictures, and enjoying food of all varieties. I'm also attempting to save the world and fight climate change by working as an energy efficiency consultant during the day. I love being back in NorCal so much, I might even stay put for a while!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I'm a strong believer in the value of higher education. As proof that I loved college so much, I just had to continue with grad school! I also realize how overwhelming & intimidating the application process can be - especially the standardized test part. I love the fact that Revolution is really dedicated to helping students achieve their college dreams, and I'm happy to be a part of that!

About Me:
I like college so much, I haven't been able to leave yet. After graduating CMU, I started a PhD program in Computer Science at Stanford and am still working towards my dissertation. As I keep telling my wife, it will be another two or three years -- that excuse has worked for three years so far!
I have many varied interests, but my newest one is photography (thanks for the camera mom and dad!). At different times in my life I've also been far into video games, Ultimate Frisbee, biking, blogging, gardening, model airplanes, and knee injuries (oh, sorry, that went with the frisbee and biking).
Currently, I'm married with two young children living on Stanford campus.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I love working with young adults at such an important time in their life. Believe it or not, I really like tests and test prep, and I love being on the same team as the students.

I'm a dad. I have a six-year-old son and a four year-old daughter. I am an actor, writer, singer and songwriter. I grew up on everything from LL Cool J to Sonic Youth to Coltrane to Fear to Bach to Basie. I like music. I've also watched more movies and television than I care to admit. All-time favorites include M.A.S.H., Arrested Development, and Seinfeld. Movies I'll watch again and again include Do The Right Thing, El Mariachi, Fargo, Requiem for a Dream, etc. I've been teaching and working with teenagers for about 10 years, and my favorite job was running an organic farm in the Double Rock Housing Projects in San Francisco.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I remember what it was like to be in high school and feel like my whole life depended on one test. Now that I'm a so-called grown-up, I realize that the people who succeed are the people who have confidence. And the people who have confidence are the people who have been shown how things work. I'm at Revolution Prep to help show you how the SAT works.

Hometown: New York, New York
College: University of California - Davis
Resides in: San Jose, CA
About Me:
Born in New York, moved to Wisconsin, and eventually drifted to California. I've pretty much lived in the Bay Area since high school (aside from a much too short stay at UC Davis). Honestly, I wish I was still in college, but I guess playing with (allegedly) carcinogenic chemicals all day isn't so bad... I work as a chemist by the way. I hope working with Revolution and all you lovely students will be a nice change of pace from life in the lab. So, let's all do something exciting with this class, yeah?
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
When I was in high school I remember wondering if the whole process of taking the SATs, stressing over my last physics test, and eventually applying to college would be worth the effort. I spent a lot of time contemplating the virtues of a higher education and my own reluctance to conform to the standards of society (in other words, I was procrastinating). And now, 7 years later (yeah I know, I'm getting old) I realize that if I had spent half of that time simply doing what needed to be done I could've saved myself from quite a bit of stress later down the road. After making it to college, I can honestly say the experience is not something you want to miss. I believe Revolution Prep and its teachers (like me!) are the perfect resource to help students focus and conquer the SATs. The SATs are the first step towards college, so stop procrastinating and just take the step already! Hopefully we'll have some fun along the way too.

About Me:
As a recent college graduate with a major in biology and minor in psych, I spent a LOT of the past four years wearing dorky protective glasses in the various labs. Fear not, however, for I have also occasionally gotten out of lab to work on my social skills! Jokes aside, I am still a serious student and current medical school applicant. When I'm not talking to petri dishes, I am also a musician (singing and flute), an adventurous chef (hot dog sushi, anybody?) and a snowboarder. I love traveling and to this day, wonder how I managed to stumble through most of Western Europe and Morocco without knowledge of any language other than traveler's French. Lastly, I am so excited to have this chance to teach and help others discover the amazing experience that is college and beyond.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Ever since one of my cleverest friends accidentally bubbled his name wrong on the SAT (and thus had to write to EVERY single college he was applying to in order to prove that he is indeed, himself), I knew that the SAT is harder than it looks...because of nerves! Fact is, being a classical music player for most of my life, I know how difficult it is to perform "on the spot" - in a strange room with strange faces, uncomfortable chairs, a broken air conditioner, etc. I teach because I know that many great kids are defeated by their own nerves, and that should not happen. Practice does not always make perfect, but it sure makes taking the SAT less scary. Simply put, I want people to stop "trying" to live up to their potentials, and do it already.

Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Life is rewarding, like getting 10% off your purchase when you finally give in and activate a Macy's credit card after a 5-minute flirt-fest with the attractive, well dressed girl at the register. Then, there's the reward that can never be discounted: helping someone learn. My first role as instructor came in college, when I was "tricked" into tutoring a bunch of middle schoolers in advanced geometry. Sure, I was proficient in math. But, teach? And middle school kids? No way. Anywho, after some shifty cajoling from my friends, I drove myself through bitter, near-freezing temperatures (remember, this is in South Carolina) at 7 AM to the nearby middle school. Was it worth braving the unforgiving elements and the rarely-seen sunrise to teach these kids? Absolutely. In the 35 minutes I spent with them, I became enamored with the "ah-haaa"s and "ooooooh, that's what that means"s. Since then, I've taught and tutored people of all ages. I know that my students can not only learn concepts and apply them in their homework and tests, but they gain the confidence to continue learning and achieve their goals. With Revolution Prep, I can extend my love for teaching into the still-harrowing world of standardized exams. I couldn't be happier with Rev Prep's philosophy and dedication to success. So, with that, I would like to let my friend Arsenio Hall close with somewhat-pertinent words: "Let's get busy!"

Then, at age three, I started a tap dancing class. Suddenly it became clear that my lack of crying and tantrum throwing as a child was only me preserving my feet and vocal chords for a lifetime in the entertainment industry. By six I was a walking American Idol contestant. By sixteen I had realized that all this training was for my main mission in life: destroying the colossal beast known as the SAT through ninja theatrics. Which brings me here, to RevPrep, where I plan to teach you all how to dominate the SAT in an entertaining and fun fashion.

When I'm not trying to save the world (or write movies about saving the world), I spend my time playing frisbee golf, reading Wikipedia, and anxiously awaiting baseball season (go A's!).
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
Remember the Odyssey? Odysseus wanders into a cave. Cyclops, gigantic and ugly, rolls a boulder in front of the entrance of the cave, trapping Odysseus. Overcome by Cyclops' strength, Odysseus is forced to watch as Cyclops proceeds to devour Odysseus' men. Odysseus realizes his only hope is to disable Cyclops by going after his one weakness, his eye. He is successful, Cyclops is blinded, and Odysseus escapes the cave.
You are Odysseus. The SATs are Cyclops. And Revolution Prep is what tells you that the SATs can be easily defeated, you just have to go for the eye.

About Me:
I am a twenty-two years old college graduate. I spent four years in San Diego studying the humanities and architecture. I am looking forward to graduate school, but for now I enjoy surfing, writing, playing music and living the Revolution!
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I believe in the program that Revolution Prep offers, because it truly is the best one out there. I enjoy working with so many other young, enthusiastic and dynamic instructors and I especially enjoy working with bay area high school students.

About Me:
I consider myself very lucky. I have traveled extensively; the things I have seen range from some of the grandest landscapes in the world as I hiked in the Himalayas to the indescribable poverty in the streets of Calcutta. These experiences give me a degree of perspective that helps me relate to many different types of people.
My interests include snowboarding, kitesailing, good fiction, guitar, and going on road trips with friends.
Why I teach at Revolution Prep:
I recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Economics. These four years have been some of the most memorable in my life, and I have met so many people that I can barely walk a block without seeing someone I know. But, sadly, now it's time to transition out of the academic lifestyle I've gotten so used to, and what better way is there than teaching with Revolution Prep?
