PSAT/NMSQT
What is the PSAT (also known as the PSAT/NMSQT)?The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is designed to give students practice and experience with the SAT. The PSAT/NMSQT tests critical reading, writing, and math and lasts 2 hours and 10 minutes.
You are not required to take the PSAT/NMSQT, but there are great benefits to taking the exam. The PSAT/NMSQT is good practice for the standardized testing process. The PSAT/NMQST also qualifies students for a National Merit Scholarship. To learn more about the National Merit Scholarship, speak with your school's counseling office.
You should take the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall of your junior year, at the latest. You can sign up to take this exam through your school's counseling office.

SAT Subject Tests
What are SAT Subject Tests?The SAT Subject Tests are standardized exams designed to test your knowledge in a specific areas / subjects. There are over 20 different SAT Subject Tests to choose from, with subjects ranging from US History to Physics to Modern Hebrew.
Many competitive schools require SAT Subject Test scores for admission purposes. University of California schools, for example, require SAT Subject Tests in two different subject areas. In some cases, when a student submits ACT scores instead of SAT scores, there is no SAT Subject Test requirement. Students should visit the admissions webpage of the schools they are considering to get details about specific standardized test requirements.
SAT Subject Test requirements depend on the schools you are applying to. Some schools require up to 3 subject tests, while some may not require them at all. You can check your schools' requirements by checking out the admissions pages of their websites.
The best time to take the SAT Subject Test is immediately after you complete the subject in school. It's usually best to wait until the end of the school year in which you're taking the class, so you're sure you've learned all the content you need.

AP Exams
What are AP Exams?AP Exams are designed to test your knowledge in certain subjects at the college level.
AP Exams are not required. However, if you take an AP Exam and do well, you can often earn college credit for that subject.
AP Exams are offered in May. It is usually best to take your AP Exam immediately following your AP course. Your AP teacher or counseling office can help you register.
It is recommended that students take the AP course at their high school before taking the AP Exam. Your counseling office can advise you on how and when to take AP courses.
