Beat the Back-to-School Blues with These 3 Ideas

Getting the kids ready to go back-to-school can be stressful – as they are reluctant to give up their days of sleeping in and no homework. It is important to get them motivated with the right mindset before they head back into the classroom but also get them excited about the upcoming school year. (We just published an article featuring 7 tips for back to school success.)

Help get your child excited and beat the back-to-school blues with these 3 tips.

1. Focus on the subjects your child likes

Typically, a student enjoys one subject more than the other. Focus on this as they get ready to head back-to-school and engage them with activities that will start them thinking about upcoming concepts. Does your child enjoy math? Consider an after school program like Revolution Math that offers an interactive learning experience while still having fun.

2. Set goals

Goals are important to instill in children – both long term and short term. Not only will this help them stay on the right path, but it helps them get in this mindset in the future. Sit down with your child and talk about the things he wants to accomplish in both academic and extracurricular activities. Help him set goals that are challenging but within reach and then establish a plan to achieve them.

3. Make back-to-school shopping fun – and educational

Back-to-school shopping is one of the rituals that many kids actually like when this time of year comes. Make it a fun day and include some time to talk about the upcoming year ahead in a positive way. You can also use this time to be educational by teaching them how to work within a budget – a valuable school a child is never too young to learn!
