Elissa earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Davidson College and her Master's in Teaching from Marshall University. She has passed the notoriously difficult 1/P and 2/FM actuarial exams, and scored in the top 15% on the Praxis Mathematics and Principles of Teaching and Learning exams. Elissa focuses on helping her students truly understand concepts, not just memorize steps to get to an answer. Deep understanding enables her students to successfully apply concepts to any problem they encounter.
Whether a student needs help on order of operations, differential equations, or is preparing for the ACT, Elissa is ready to help. She believes that anyone can succeed in math and has been successful working with students who feel that they are "just not good at math." Her growth mindset and excitement for the subject matter is contagious, and her calm, encouraging demeanor enables her to easily build rapport with her students. Elissa's students often describe her as kind and helpful and enjoy her sense of humor.
