Cheryl has a gift for adjusting her teaching style to a student’s personality and learning approach, and she creates a tutoring plan for each student that builds on his or her individual strengths. Cheryl excels at helping students find reading and testing strategies that work for them, whether they struggle with comprehension and vocabulary or need to make the leap from competence to excellence as they prepare for SAT or ACT. She has experienced outstanding results when working with visual learners and students who suffer from test anxiety. Parents have commented on her ability to reach out and find ways to help their children move beyond whatever holds them back. Cheryl often plays the role of an academic coach for her students, identifying strengths and weaknesses in their performance and working with them to improve their skills and reach their goals.
Cheryl earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Comparative Literature from BYU and went on to be awarded the Chancellor's Distinguished Fellowship for her interdisciplinary PhD in literature and the philosophy of science at the University of California, Riverside. Cheryl is passionate about teaching and learning, and she comes to the tutoring table with more than 25 years of classroom teaching experience, covering all ages from preschool to graduate students. As a grad student herself, she won an award for best college course design from the Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies. She continues to pursue her passion for education by working one-on-one with special needs students in her community
