Julie is great at taking complex concepts and breaking them down into pieces that are easier to digest. She loves getting students excited about science and math, especially by demonstrating how what they read in a textbook can be applied in the real world, so that studying for a Calculus midterm or the science section of the ACT doesn't have to be a chore. She has a real talent for providing students with multiple ways to approach problems so that they can find the one that works best for them. Julie enjoys working with students who love science and math and want to take that passion to the next level, as well as students who may be struggling and would benefit from a different perspective on these subjects.
Julie holds a Bachelor's degree, with honors, in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas and a PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Rice University. Her research has been published in the scientific journals "Langmuir" and "Soft Matter." While at Rice, she was twice selected to be a Dean's Teaching Fellow and was three times voted by students as Outstanding Teaching Assistant. Julie is always ready to listen and provide encouragement, whether you want to discuss cell division or the great book you just finished reading!
