About Philip

Philip Thomas has prepared hundreds of students for the SAT and ACT and academics in the last 10 years. He has tutored a total of over 5000 hours, working with students from all over the world. His humor and engaging teaching style make test prep and academic support fun. Once his students realize that they can enjoy learning with Philip, they see on average 300-point improvements on the SAT and full-grade improvements in school.

Since receiving his degree in Cinematic Studies from USC, Philip has done programming for the American Film Institute and worked on a variety of film productions. Tutoring has proved incredibly rewarding as well; he finds it most satisfying to help his students see beyond the immediate test score or assignment and find a newfound appreciation and focus towards their education as a whole.

His students have gone on to attend Stanford, Princeton, Brown, U of Chicago and Georgetown, amongst many others.

at Menlo School

He was always helpful and did his best to explain the content to me. He was extremely knowledgeable about all topics and could relate his knowledge into teaching. I would definitely do another tutoring session with Philip! He was also hip and cool.

Philip is an extremely energized and upbeat tutor! He guides you through all the basics, throws in his own experiences and techniques, and leaves you feeling 1000x better about the material than at the start of that day's lesson! Great tutor!
